As a matter of fact, [music] a decade ago, you started playing video games about cars not unlike this one, and somehow built that into an empire [music] worth billions of dollars in a real course. So, how did this journey begin for you? It all started with first of all, I used to play soccer and about the freshman year of high school. I got a concussion that was really bad and I ended up quitting soccer. And when you have a concussion, you're not really supposed to play video games, but I secretly, you know, late at night, turn the volume down, parents couldn't [music] hear, you know, you know the song, goes and uh that was kind of how it all started when I was, I guess, 15.

You're a kid, you get a concussion, you're stuck at home, you start playing [music] video games, you discover this game called Rocket League. A decade later, you have [music] four million subscribers on YouTube. I've made millions of dollars playing this game, posting it online, and a bunch of other stuff that we're gonna get into in just a second. What happened between then and now? Did you start making YouTube videos just playing the game?

Like, how always been fascinated by like different little tricks to, you know, get the ball over someone or around someone. And I was just really bored and I started to get really addicted to Rockendandy. And I discovered a weird way to like flip your car by going backwards, but you would go forward. So then I I got the ball on top of my car. And I tried the same thing. And I noticed you could like fake the opponent out and flick it up in a way that's never been done before.

I posted that to Reddit. Actually, I was a big Redditor back in the day about 500k karma under my belt. >> You might be the only person with 500k Reddit karma that also has a purple porch. But anyway, >> maybe. Yeah, I posted it to Reddit and people were like, "Holy crap." Like the Rocket League subreddit was like, "Dude, this is crazy. We've never seen this before." And my old Xbox username, which was randomly generated for me, was a musty cow.

Oh, so Musty [music] was a random name that had constantly ran. And by the way, now with Rocket League being one of the most popular video games [music] and esports of all time, this musty flick is like the equivalent of like bicycle kick. Professionals do this. Everybody knows what it's called. like your name is is like memorialized in the sport of Rocket League forever cuz of some random [ __ ] you did when you were 15 years old. >> Random Reddit post.

I bought like a $30 blue snowball mic. I was too afraid to show my face or anything. >> Yo, what's going on guys? Uh I've gotten lots of requests to make a tutorial for the Musty Flake. >> At first, [music] I remember I was just posting mainly on Reddit and my first few months of YouTube, [music] you know, you have to make the monetization program. I was like showing my mom like, "Look, mom, I got I got 20,000 up votes.

I got 10,000 up votes. Like, look at my page." And she was like, "Why? Like, that's really cool, but like are you making any money from it?" And I was like, "No, like I should." And then that's when I really tried to lock in on YouTube. And dude, you're not [music] going to believe this. I was getting paid $7.25 an hour at Culver. Like the most minimum [music] possible wage ever. My YouTube paycheck was like $300 in a month, which is higher than [music] I worked part-time, like higher than like the $200 or so I made the time fast food.

And then that was like last year of high school, you know? Like after that, I showed my mom the two paychecks [music] and I was like, "Hey, like I don't I didn't know what I wanted to do in terms of college. I was like, "Hey, like [music] let me pursue this. Let me see if I can get this number up and like, you know, just give me a give me a year." Okay. So, after a year of going all in on playing Rocket League and making videos, when did you start making actual money?

When did you start getting real views? When did this stuff really pop off for you? >> Yeah, I I remember a very distinct conversation. It was me, my dad, and my brother. Like, I remember where we were. And I finally shared some revenue numbers. It was like $2,000 a month. And my my brother Grant, he was like, "Dude, like imagine you made over $10,000 in a single month." And at first, like genuinely, I've never met anyone in my life that has made that much before.

And we were we were kind of just chuckled and we're like, "Oh, like you know, imagine one day >> dollars a day off of YouTube AdSense. >> We're we're in 2020 now. Co hit and again I don't know if it's luck or the universe handing me gifts, but everyone during co they can't really go anywhere. >> Stuck at home playing video games. >> They're stuck at home playing video games. They don't know how to do stuff. They want to watch Rocket League content." I was one of the fastest growing creators at the time and my views like 5 10xed over co all the old ones like the hundreds of old ones I started to [music] post instead of making $3 a day each they all started to make $30 a day each like all these old ones that I kind of counted as flops at first. >> Such an important lesson, dude.

There's a crazy lesson in that cuz you were posting video video feeling like they're not doing well. I feel like I'm putting the right thing out into the world, but it's not making that much money. It's not getting traction. [music] And then, bro, months, years later, all of the sudden, something aligns in the world. All your hard work starts to [music] pay off that you thought never would have done anything. And you're like, "Wow, thank God I stayed consistent." Like, "Good thing I believed in me and I didn't quit." And to the outside world, it almost looks like an overnight [music] success.

Like, you get all these views at once, but what people don't see is like the, you know, tens of [music] thousands of hours of put into this and you know first of all putting into the game getting good enough to you know be enjoyable that way but the thousands of hours I also put into you know editing and crafting [music] the content a lot of people they they don't get the 100k views or million views right away and they they think they fail.

You can't fail if you keep going. You you literally can't fail. And another kind of [music] mantra I live by is you got to fall in love with the progress of doing something. you can't, you know, be too [music] attached to external outcome, which for a while I was. I saw these 10K a month numbers and millions of views. And I was like, "Oh [music] my god, I'm I'm doing so good." But what I really started to learn over the years of doing this and just living life is you need to fall in love with the progress of doing [music] something and you'll make it very far.

When I'm checking like how much I'm making per [music] month, and I I showed my mom like how much I'm actually making here, >> which was what number did you show her? I showed [music] her like my best month ever just AdSense was around $250,000 in a single month. >> Huh. >> And that's when my mom kind of she didn't really know how to react. She didn't understand what I was doing when I was locking myself in the bedroom 14 hours a day.

But when I showed her the $250,000 plus month, she kind of stopped saying that. >> Yeah. Um where are we going by? Like [laughter] exiting. What is the business, the money-making machine behind a Musty Cow? We all know you have millions of subscribers on YouTube. We understand loosely that you play video games and post it online. How much roughly are you actually making per year right now between all this stuff? >> Um, with everything cash flow between 500K and a million a year. >> Okay. And then if you include investments this year, you probably did pretty well.

Yeah, like I said, you know, we talked about the Nvidia position, but I also have a lot of safe ETFs. Um, I could pull up my my thing. I don't even know, man. It's good to have that pictured in your mind, but you should fall in love with something you're passionate about and the actual progress of getting there. >> If you could talk to 15-year-old Wyatt when he first turned on that console with no idea what all this was going to turn into, >> what would you say? I mean, surface level answer, but keep playing the freaking game for sure because it's going to get me a lot further than I think.

And just keep working hard and like you'll you'll get great things in life. I think that's a great metaphor [music] for everybody watching this video. Keep playing the game, right? No matter what your game is, right? His is Rocket League. Mine is [music] all this other stuff. Everybody has their own game, but I think a lot of people quit too early, right? You posted video video, [music] no views, no views, no views, no views, no views.

Three years later, millions of people went back and watched those videos and it changed [music] your life forever. >> Yeah. >> So, you have to remember to keep playing your game. If you don't see results today, if you don't see them tomorrow, if you don't see them next week or next month, that doesn't mean that you won't see them in a year or 2 years or 5 years. So, stay in the game. And you might look back over the past decade and think, I have no idea how the this happened.
