to do something that I have wanted to do for years I'm about to call my dad's girlfriend and basically ask her can she set up for me to secretly pay off her and my dad's house so that when he gets here to Miami I can surprise him and and tell him that his house is paid for and I can launch into like a whole emotional diet tribe about this and how long I've wanted to do this we have the rest of the video for that I will say I'm extremely nervous because I have no idea how she's going to react but I'm doing it this way because I'm afraid if I try to just give my dad money in person he would quite a nice gesture well so you know he raised me for 18 years so he did thank you so much no no no no thank you that was that went pretty good don't you yeah that's so sweet she was so shocked ah my dad's going to be pissed so I guess I owe you guys some backstory I had a pretty complicated childhood my parents split up when I was 4 years old and that meant they both had to be full-time parents while working full-time jobs my mom was putting herself through medical school when I was born and I could write an entire book about my family story but this video is about my dad my dad has worked hard my whole life he did car sales when I was a little kid and then he moved on to open a small self-owned auto shop in our hometown Tulsa Oklahoma and the reason why it was so important for me to do what I did in this video and pay off his house is because my dad recently closed his shop because he wants to retire and he's been telling us that he'll have to work again somewhere else sometime soon and I wanted to make sure that never happens because my entire life I've watched my dad get up and work with his hands and without knowing it he taught me early on what it means to wake up and work hard every day to take care of your family we weren't truly poor but life was very simple it's no easy task running a business and raising two boys as a single dad but my dad must have done a great job every time I go home to visit my childhood house everything is just like I left it like 10 years ago so when I was at home for Thanksgiving this year I decided to go digging through my old closet in the bedroom I grew up in and in that closet I found a folder full of my old childhood art projects and in that folder was a father day booklet that our school had all the kids make to give our dads they gave us these little paper books with prompts to write our dad's poems and draw them pictures and when I was at home rumaging through my stuff I opened this booklet up started reading some of the misspelled scribbles I wrote in there as a little kid because damn I was a bad speller at 5 years old and one part stopped me in my tracks there was this little section where I drew and this is hilarious two gravestones next to one another symbolizing me and my dad D and wrote me and my dad will be together always and I know that's some silly stuff you draw as a kid but for some reason it hit me really hard because I was so young that I don't even remember drawing this but as I read that it dawned on me just how good of a father my dad must have been to me as a kid so I was sitting there reading this booklet and I knew exactly what kindergarten me who made that booklet would have done if he could swap places with 2025 chimp so I flew home to Miami got a few things in order called my dad's girlfriend got the house paid off brought my dad out to visit gave him the best week I possibly could and then it was time for the big reveal I have something to tell you okay I have a I have a uh I can't tell you what it is yet but I have a late Christmas gift for you or you're here is it food uh kind no but it I think you'll like it better okay okay I'll tell you tomorrow okay okay I'll tell you tomorrow okay okay all right tomorrow all right guys today is the day it's Friday my dad and my brother have been in Miami for I guess 3 days now and it's time for the big reveal to be honest I don't know why I haven't told my dad yet I think I'm just nervous because I know he would never ask me to do this and I don't want him to feel like I think that he needs this from me but I want to do it and I'm proud to do it and I'm so grateful to do it so I've been working all morning I'm going to go spend the afternoon with my dad and my brother we're probably going to go to the beach because they can't do that back home in Oklahoma I have an amazing dinner plan for tonight at my favorite restaurant but before we go to dinner I'm going to bring them over here I'm going to set my dad down I'm going to turn the camera on and I'm going to tell him that his mortgage is paid off so wish me luck okay so oh like is it an interview like what do you want to be in no or I guess I don't know might I could feel like what was I like as a child um what age I don't know two cute five still cute 10 a little Annoying 15 you know you just put up with you and it worked out I cannot actually go grab your present I can't like hand it to you okay um so it's a virtual present yeah it's actually really funny because you know how whenever we were at the beach earlier like we jokingly
