AHA! HELLO! JEFF BRIDGES HERE. GREETINGS. I'm here to jam with my good buddy Eric Goodman. Here he is. Yeah! >> Let's roll. >> Yeah, man. >> Let's roll. >> So, you ready for some teaching here, man? I'm going to teach you what you have taught me just so I know that I'm doing the right thing and you can teach me on my teaching. I did. >> I'm your student. Teach me. >> This is the standing decompression breath. What's taught by you.
And what you want to do is you want to stand here like this. It's good to do it barefoot. >> Absolutely. >> Stand here like this. >> [sighs] >> Take your fingers like this. And you want to get your lower rib and the top of your hips there as high as it can be apart. You want to put your feet in a pigeon toe position. Keeping that as high as you can. And as you stretch your hand bring your hands before you you're going to kick your ass out and hinge at the hips.
And your knees are going to come together. That's right. Even a little more together. Your knees together. Yeah, there you go. But hinge. I want you to kick your ass out. That's it. >> Got it. >> Now, you're going to breathe in this part of your thing. And you don't want to do this. You want to get your shoulders going out. Yeah, like this. That's it. And you're going to stretch here. You're going to hinge. Breathe here.
Pick your head up. Keep your knees together, man. Yeah. Keep your knees together as you hinge and take Give me Give me a three reps like that. One. That's it. Knees together. Keep your knees Yeah. Yeah. Toes nicely spread. And I now give me one more with just this stretched up a little bit more. There you go. Elbows in a little bit. There you go. Stretching out here we can There you go. You're looking good. >> Thank you, Jeff. >> Yeah, man.
One last one. There you go. Knees together. Keep those knees When I do this, I try to think of all the little details cuz I'm a guy who doesn't like to work out, man. I >> [sighs] >> It's interesting. I don't like to work out because I'm kind of addicted to comfort. >> Sure. >> But I have learned that all stress is not bad. >> No. >> Stress can be a really a good thing, especially when it's done kind of intentionally.
And so what helps me as I'm doing these exercises is I concentrate on the details. >> [sighs] >> Now you give me some instructions. >> Okay. So the standing decompression, you got to make sure the heels are widespread, the toes. As the fingers come up, don't let the knees travel forward. Squeeze them in together. And before anything else happens, lift the crown of your skull right off your neck. >> Ooh, I like that. See, that's something I forgot about. >> And as you're doing that, think of breathing up through the upper nose, into the ribs, into the back of the ribs.
There's a counter balance. If Jeff brings his arms up and forward, he's got to bring his bring his hips back just a little bit. It's a little shaky. It's a little tiring, and you can add Go ahead. Relax. Relax. >> And you almost want to feel like you're going to fall over backwards. And when you feel that When you feel that, you extend the forward. You You balance it out. >> So watch this. Let's go profile so they can see the side of you.
And let's do the same thing and what and we'll talk about that that backward lean. So, big open breath, measuring sticks that kind of lead the way, the arms come forward as the hips travel. The knees are squeezing, and you're using your back muscles, your lat muscles, your neck muscles to reach forward, but there's a counterbalance, the fulcrum of the hip joint pulling backward, loading the hamstrings, loading the whole backside. >> And you shake you shake. >> You shake because your body and your nervous system are getting used to tensions.
When you do this really hard, I mean, I sweat the moment I start doing Foundation Training cuz I just I lock everything in as hard as I can. And as you're doing that, you're collecting more and more muscles for force dispersion to lift your body up to support the rib cage as it's breathing, to support the feet as they're moving, all of it. But it's really about recruiting every ounce of tissue you can. >> And like I say, what helps me with my dislike of uncomfort is to think about all those little specific things, and that kind of keeps your mind away from oh, what a drag. >> Absolutely. >> You just these little uh little goals that you put yourself in. >> Let's let's do an archer.
Let's show a little archer movement. >> And just before we do that, talk a little bit about the importance of that >> the breath up top. >> up top. >> Turn around for me for a second. >> Yeah. >> What Jeff's talking about is there's so much more volume of the rib cage in the back of the lungs than in the front of the lungs. And when we tend to breathe into our chest, you pinch off a lot of really important lung volume and structural support.
So, I have people breathe high up in the back and high up in the sternum as well as low across the low ribs. And that big upper body breathing is a wonderful postural and lung volume improvement for people. >> going like this, not like this, right? >> Yeah, you don't want to round up and over. You don't want to hug your neck. You want to pull the shoulder joints apart from below. >> Right. >> Pulling apart. If you look at old bodybuilding, it's called a lat spread.
This great movement that just widens the lats and makes you look like a cobra. It's a really cool position. >> Do you Do you uh Do you know Arnold? Have you hung out with Arnold? >> One day. One day I hope to, but I haven't. >> to make that connection, man. >> I would love that. That'd be amazing. >> I would be fun. >> That would be amazing.
