I Tried The OS Everyone Says Will Replace macOS transcript

The entire internet is going nuts talking about this brand new agentic operating system named Omachi. >> This guy Every time a new a new trend happens, he makes a video hyping it like a 100 X. He's like, "It's an AI-first open-source operating system, and it has skyrocketed my productivity." >> It is the only AI-native operating system I've ever used, and it has made it basically impossible for me to go back to macOS or Windows. >> Omar Key or Omachi or Uchi Uchi Whatever you want to call it, is a Linux operating system by DHH.

Right now, it is all the rage. By the way, DHH does call it Omachi, but it says Omar Key, bro. >> It is the absolute best operating system I've ever used, hands down. Better than macOS, better than Ubuntu, way better than Windows. Okay, so look, as you can tell, I'm coming into this with preconceived notions that it's just going to be Linux with great marketing, because that's DHH's specialty. And let me be clear that I also I also really like DHH.

He's a really nice guy. I grew up on their books, Rework. Both Jason and DHH, really nice guys. But, they are experts at marketing. They are good at taking something rather mundane like Basecamp and making it seem like it's revolutionary. And now they are doing the same thing with Linux. And I'm I'm open to having my mind changed. That's what this whole show is about. It's Hype Busters for new tech. I had my mind changed by Grok, but I did not have my mind changed by Perplexity.

I found this a way to run it on macOS without any setup. >> Wow. >> Okay, this is very pretty. So, we got a calendar, apps. Basecamp is first, dude? No way. No way. Holy content marketing. And hey, okay, this all makes Jesus. These guys are geniuses, man. Oh my god. It is pretty clean, man. So, you have more than one desktop here. Is that what it is? Command enter is terminal. I'm kind of liking this, man. I'm kind of liking this.

All right. No, please God, no. Please. File manager super shift F. Okay, this is pretty ugly. You know, this is the part of Linux that's always the worst is the finder. And it kind of sucks that there's so little work done here. Style theme. That's pretty clean. Black. Some nice wallpapers, man. How did it set up the two windows like this? Is that something that I just did? Let me open another app. Open up Discord. Oh, that's pretty neat.

So it tiles the windows automatically. I can go between various desktops. That's pretty That's pretty neat. If by the end of this video I like this product, I'll start calling it Omachi. We'll meet halfway right now. We're going to call it Omarchi because I kind of like it. Building Omar key plugin that is a world clock. The scrolling is really bad. I don't know what the deal is with that. So, I get it. Would I use this?

If I hated macOS, I would probably use this. Or if I liked Linux, I would probably use this. It is very snappy like when you command tab. I imagine that's where the productivity gains can come from. Screen saver. Pretty ugly. Is this my app? Is this what it just built for me? This is pretty cool, actually. You know, this is basic cloud stuff, but you know, the fact that it got it all in the dock. I get it. There's a little bit of joy here.

I see a little spark. I want to stick with macOS because I'm a I'm a sort of practical kind of person. But if I had like a second machine or something, I would definitely use this over Windows, that's for sure. If anybody other than DHH built this, would you be hearing about it? The answer is no. Is it cute? Yes. Is it visually pleasing? Yes. Is it novel? A little bit. But is it 10 layers of hype? Yes. Hype busters, is this busted or not? >> [laughter] >> It's plausible.

I think that's where we'll land here. It's just Linux people. Will it be fun to run this on a spare PC that you have lying around to run local models or something, yes. That's the thing about these hype cycles is that it makes it feel like you're missing something. You're not missing anything. You can go on about your life continuing with Windows or Mac OS, and you may even be more productive because you'll have all your apps on a Mac OS, the things you're used to.

You try to main this as someone who's not a developer, I I don't see any benefit here. Overall, not garbage. Not garbage. Hey, Claude fixed a bug. Back to our guy here, Alex Finn. This guy was one of the guys buying Mac minis when the whole open claw thing was popping off. Now he's hopped on the little Omachi bandwagon and I mean, look at this title. I mean, Network Chuck, he's a great guy, but you need to switch to Linux right now.

I mean, no, you don't. You absolutely do not need to switch to Linux right now. From what? From Mac OS? Are you out of your mind, dude? Why would you Why would you do that? Why would you What What would you gain? >> Entire internet is talking about this brand new agentic operating system named Omachi. >> Agentic operating system. My goodness. Stay sane out there, folks. The hype is insufferable. Every Everything Everything's hype-based marketing now.

The only way to actually market your product anymore is to just be this over the top on the hype. That's why you see so much hype around things. And actually, the more hype you see around a product, the more you know that you could safely stay away from it. There There's a pattern on X where if somebody posts an article and you quote tweet it saying some just a simple line saying everyone needs to read this. This is the most important article you'll ever read.

Specifically skip those articles. For some reason, the algo picks up on on that quote and and and propagates these articles. So, thank you for watching.
