all right it's time for the extremely infrequent Oprah Winfrey book club except for it's not a bunch of house lives there's no budget its way sadder because we're talking to young men our age just go [ __ ] about our wives girlfriends that's it's very much what this is gonna be yeah yeah I've done all the other kind I guess the more poop related friendly journies content so it's nice to being the more serious he's from the podcast in case you listen to it this is miss love ballad Brad chick hello pretty such that bad guy Raymond that's a saxophone that's what he looks a lot anyway but this is not mean like he is a complicated place think about it look what we need to do I've got the two Bibles here Tony Robbins is unlimited power and of course the new test of it oh we fit the giant in the you started reading yeah and it's basically just a cross-promotion saying this is a podcast but on top we mem is some peace love my oldest dearest friends were finally gotten to start reading one of the Tony Robbins books and because there's a bunch of people always go to make oil salesmen that sorry use the biggest buzz word on the Mitch there's like really dated at this point I'm a bit it we go to the dog need to get some confirmation so you're gonna say it's not lit damn is about what your shiny sheet and far miss because just just as always people do this Cardinal scene of judging a book by it's cover and going it's [ __ ] because I read the title so anyway look I want you to just give us a rundown because I mean your usual miss lifestyle if anyone knows we spend weeks calculating when you first started something I've almost finished eighth of the best so embarrassing and such a such a uh you know a it's not Harry Potter to is it's a I'm sure like that draws the line divides it divides people but yeah how long was it yeah not being you were saying I've almost finished it for nearly a year so for your powering through the T's The Tortoise of the tortoise I'll show you how far gotten I mean just just this is for the audience oh is that is that where you're up to oh that's you started reading right well yeah this is just this is Bible quote things that are putting look I mean look it's somewhere around here yeah look it's probably like it's pretty pathetic but if that can if you can see I've read that much that's what on a book about motivation but that's just me that that's just unfortunately but look would you like it what would you have a review of it I just like you did it scrapple ate on the idea to tell us what you've gotten from the book though far okay well basically it is like book club it's okay well basically basically um so like I mean they're typing half the reason why it's taken so long it take it's taken me so long to get through it first of all is because I'm highlighting as I go because essentially to get a desire to give it to give a bit of backstory basically from me like probably like everybody else in the world or not the world but like whoever you know I don't know a group of friends who who at you know that's sort of the general zeitgeist I suppose assume he's like a sail what is it a snake oil salesman was just like he's in that movie with Jack Black so like he's just a diversity yes that movie was you know the onliest brush you need master dawn what do you mean it might be bright Chester rocking out her twos bit like really the fact that those guys that sit around in pubs all day that feeling the squeeze yes city they're just big like you you look messed it on use what got me to where I am next to that guy who's watching the Maroons fight the [ __ ] changes yeah yeah but basically like that was my opinion initially and I basically had an opinion sort of just like yeah it's gonna be crap and then I see I iced it up and then I think you did you bought it you bought it for me I can't remember when it was my birth there was something I kinda really you bought it for me I mean this guy is the human Amway is and he kind of convinces you so hard that he's mad that you go and buy his book rather for other people which you've done like numerous times meanie is fine but there's only only one that actually created those what breeding I'm sorry okay so basic that was my initial opinion so just you know that Barton Souls by anybody but I basically have the opinion of sort of like you know what do you have what do I have to lose I can't give it a shot so try to read it and see see I can see how it go because I think you a lot of the stuff you were telling me was sort of an amalgam of this this book and sort of like a generalization of the stuff that you had utilized in your own life and your creative endeavor well this is what he is the og self-help guru in that he got every no sorry he's not he is that Trapper Keeper monster in that season four episode of South Park where Justin alder mates with every other electronic device on earth that is here with every other self-help guru ins beam history pretty much it's just like a friend all of Buddha yes I've got the best idea so pretty much reading every cell phone book on Earth by reading it so I have to I have to think back about what how can summarize basically okay so it starts I have to think I mean the main points have come to mind are essentially what what he but it's basically for me it's been like this psychology behind the power of the mind I mean that the hope though it's called awaken the giant within even though the second one in that I haven't joined on the other one to answer either but basically from what I let me place is really serious that it's just like making you do one of those book reviews where you haven't ready look he basically talks about there's what there was a few things that stood out one of them was talking about the power of money talks about how there's people that are they have multiple they have split personality disorder disorde it's like heavy psychosis and there's people with heavy split personality disorder and he talks about how he talks about how essentially there are cases that there have been cases in America where these people would spirits split personalities others have actually been able to cure diseases and and and and ailments that they have physiologically have through the process of this split person either sort of has been people that have it's been observed they can change their eye color people with swimmers why is that so much more profound that's so much scarier to me than then curing diseases just by really they had brown eyes it always did that I still remember that because you looked at the irobot case for like a minute and that's just been planning your Manson Wow but but uh shed out will but basically look that that was just one thing that's come to me now which I thought like I had there's a lot of moments where I put it down just like what and I put it down I was just like holy crap that is a profound that that's incredible like as an example of the power of the mind and yeah this is in his chapter on the power of belief the power of all exactly the power of belief which is the to sum this up what are you saying is it's pretty much just a slightly more scientific version of the secret which wouldn't be high and I still love the secret love the secret one here bad wood I have a it's a cigarette this is a visited documentary yeah it's pretty much just Oprah Winfrey's mind Jesus that's pretty watch okay okay that is great really like it but obviously then a lot of the rest of it is about like but I'll show you know what's really important doing things yeah it's just the missing part of the secret is actually a bit like yeah I mean looking like it would be to be nice to sit around and think about things all day but we all know somebody like that and usually all they have as a result is bipolar but actually to it but even in the power of belief what he is saying is whatever you think is possible for you is what your mind starts feeling around it starts putting off blinkers yeah and says this is what I deserve in life yeah there's two ways that this goes and the first one is that a lot of people in life have what they call like a failure berry as a success barrier in there they think they're earning $60,000 a year and they think that that's what they're worth hmm so there there is all these potential opportunities for them to be earning a lot more money so that they learn to play piano a lot as a kid and they actually are good at piano and so they could teach piano on the side to up it's I don't know semi grand or something like that this is a really simple example but their brain blocks that app and stuff because it things that's been fun work yeah yeah or any in any field this isn't just in love in your body all these things you have a psychological subconscious barrier in your mind of what you think you're worth and what is scary about that is if you don't actively do it and keep writing down that you are worth more than what you are at that point your brain just subconsciously keeps you there that's scary yeah yes he's the scary apart he's the other part that he talks about is even if you break that barrier no sorry sorry the other the other thing that's it's scarier in a way obviously it's not scarier that but the other thing that happens is you have a failure barrier which is that if you lose your job most people think I'm actually worth having a job and then they go out and get one right but then there's other people that just go they just keep going down because they feel like they don't deserve what they currently have and so it depends what you accept is like a beer minimun in life but it also depends on what you will accept is a beer maximum yeah and that changes purely by what you think yeah I think that's what that's the take-home of that chat I think I think look I should really have read I have to read it all but like I said most you know see in a couple years about finish but hopefully not but essentially I think you'll be part of their sustained trend I think I think it'd be I think it'd be proportion I mean there's a lot you know in like the amount of read there's still a lot in there but I think could be proportionate this kind of like he's reinforcing the idea that like he that like it's basically proven basically proof that if you if you actually believe something you can make it happen no matter and there is an overall sort of feeling of like because I think that in society especially especially the way our generation was raised it's this kind of thing of like you can be whatever you want to be but it wasn't necessarily taught to our generation that you have to do the hard work they kind of like skipped that part it was like yeah just just yeah you can be an astronaut but then you'd have to do it you know you didn't think about studying aerodynamics and maths and biology and physics like it was just sort of like you know it was like hot so I am putting it dude I mean that's perfect in knowledge it was like half of the puzzle at least and I think I think the one of what is saying is like that that proportion of that sort of idea is true you can be whatever you want to be if you put your mind to it but then it's not a stress me later but he's stressing like the put your mind to a part is the important part it's like yeah you have to dream big but like you have to have active like plans like this there's an analogy of the table yes like yes I belief take words like four pillars and it's like you you have to is everyone there's a crew that belief anything yeah just you name the glass because it's not proving a point if you're saying that you're scared of public speaking it would have been a point in your life where you were really drunk talking to people on that classic sheet glass table it's green and a cigarette like I'm so wait case and a corona that's half drunk yeah and there's a couple of times in the night where you think I don't know whose it is but they're true should I go for it yeah I'm gonna go for it [ __ ] who's better that's the Aussie version of what he's talking about so yeah super light because otherwise people would be like watch okay but this is this international viewers this is anything that you're saying so if you're scared of public speaking there would have been examples in your past where you did speak to more than one person at once and that is pretty much the saying whether it comes to a few people or a thousand people you know there's freakiest it's actually scarier talking to 50 people than it is a thousand I'm talking about it I've spoken to both so there's the same frame as playing a show playing they're like 14 paper where you can see like the decent point is versus you know a hundred register of see you've meet yeah yes yeah and she's just feeling the general energy of the group I love all these little quotes as well starting to cut you off just just quickly there's all these quotes done it throughout they're like like as an example Sir Thomas Browne men live by intervals of reason under the sovereignty of humor and passion I mean like just like a man who suffers before it is necessary suffers more than it's necessary like it's kind of like old school ladies Wall Street self-help which is like see only stocks the only set of help you need what's the only stuff that I've dabbled in and it's it's pretty on point like it's like it's back to basics it's almost like being reminded of the essentials just like it's like being taught how to cook Italian food it's like bread pasta tomatoes got like it's kind of this like basic principles in the life look you can shape your destiny you can do whatever you want to do just follow these baits no trickery it's just like write them down follow the ideas see them out to the end genuinely believe in yourself even these sounds crazy snake oil sales set dogs it's like even even if it sounds crazy no matter how crazy it sounds like giving to the craziness and just kind of go with it but what do you have to lose and then as well as that definitely the idea of like you know it's really cool hearing about genuine stories of people like I knew people that were homeless there she goes it's like whenever I read you might have Joe it's a great whenever I read anything like that or even his own life this is this a story about his own life and like he had a hot like hard life and and he completely turned around it's like if you sort of don't just brush it off as as if you really take it any like that happened then it can't not have an effect on you in terms of being like well that is crazy like it's more this stuff in his book is way more interesting than like fiction it's wave in the Harry Potter there's real scenarios that seem impossible and really hard and like it's like it shouldn't be it's not like seek there's no secrets it's just techniques and it's like simple things is teaching you to not don't mean recipe book for life you don't have yeah you don't have to you know it's like I think a lot of the the lot of society of like generally speaking in the West it's like people are sort of given the worst parts of things it's like you can be narcissistic you can be hard on yourself you know you can you can expect you can expect you can expect to fail and it's kind of like try just flipping it where you expect to do really well and just consistently follow up that's expectation yeah it's like the different these crap cuz the thing is any belief that you have inside your head is exactly that and then the rest of your life is judged by that set of beliefs like really read that that this is the first quote is that the book opens with this acquaintance on its own it's just like oh that's really profound occasion man believes in destiny a capricious man enchant Benjamin Disraeli but isn't that isn't that even that profound in that it's like surely statistically if you believe in the idea of chance even if it's still on a logical level verse like verse shaping your own destiny it's like it's gonna fail like the nature of chances yeah it's on wanna know whatever well it's just a weak belief this isn't this is there is genuine study into this where they show that and and it is pretty much on science quote where it says that the most important question you need to answer yourself is is the universe a good place or a bad place that's a system like is the universe working for you or is it working against you that's interesting so that's the way that they think about it is called being an inverse paranoid that's a helpful belief and I think that the universe is conspiring for you as opposed to conspiring against you and there's what they're saying there's other able to just sit there and think they're so buff and then they're just they know that life is just all random chance when a Nicolas Cage's character and that movie about aliens that was pretty sure he doesn't believe in chance these poly Ya Ya Ya Ya if you have that belief that everything is happening to you for a reason and that in the end things will work out for you if you do your beer if you do your beer that is a that is a much more powerful place because of ya it gives you a natural confidence yeah nobody else like because it's the same thing as like people in AAA meetings one of the one of the things that think that a lot of psychologists cannot get over is the fact that a tenement of the 12-step process is that you need to believe in God or some other higher power now there is really some for that and it is because in your darkest moment if you think that someone is there with you on your side when nobody actually is hmm that is going to get you through that so there's one people if you just think that life is random in cheetahs happening where you by chance it's the same thing as like on average when they look at religious people as opposed to atheists religious people are happier now does that mean that they don't have a bunch of other beliefs that are wrong that atheist who yet no obviously not but the thing is that they are doing life better you see all these Christians that are living really fulfilling happy lives where they're helping other people as well oh yeah but I think it was I remember the comedian who it was but they said the best thing it was one of the best quads ever heard which is just like I've never seen a soup kitchen that's run by the Atheist Society and another test where a rock Christian radio cuz they're nice and it's funny the psychology behind belief faith or whatever and is it still like having a religion shape that faith into taking money away from you just going to the source of what is working in that scenario and why it's been so powerful for human beings since the dawn of humans yeah as soon as we've been able to imagine things that aren't there what has actually made humans more successful than the end adults as they can rally around together and they've got a common cause and look I I wasn't I wasn't I wasn't an expert of this at all like I'm in like I I i think it's i think if you have you up against a map what's the world like a mountable odds whatever the term is but like if you are missing there in sumeria if you're if you if that's a scenario or what are you perceive it as that scenario that's not it's really hard to start or it's really hard to look it was too hard I'm like you know I was talking Jordan early when when we started the I'm sorry when I joined the pod which is like I don't know a couple years ago because I'm doing you know I'm like doing music and stuff of that it's like you know I was in that psychologists been like goods hard but like and it's it's a conduit it's two minutes you know everyone's against me and stuff but the reality was it's like I wasn't I like what my expectation was verse whatever I was putting into was like a child could have been like well maybe put a bit more into doing stuff so you know yeah like it was like embarrassing to that point and now like it's I have to work because I'm always telling myself like you're just a [ __ ] like work for like you just it's just the reality of it like I always think that the way to write our generation was raised was it was it was I had the best shot at oh but it was like kind of crapping out of that sense of like you can do anything but nonsan I was never once old you can do anything we have to work on it was oh and that's what was just always pointing out is that if the last few generations in the West who've been taught and then you must be school yeah when they're lutely taught you work hard we have what Asians are toward illusion why they kill it sounds like and and like I look without even reading any any 20 Robbins like over the last couple of years I've been like 300 percent more productive over that time attest to that as well and the thing is just by just by changing my just by like check the hardest thing to do is change the hardest thing whether it's exercise single diet it's it's hard but but what Jesus has to do I don't know I don't know and there's no magic answer I think you just have to kind of do it and like books like this help because it's like he's like this giant sinful man in a suit that's kind of like yeah I was gonna do it kind of actually do what I'm saying many eat you and it's not he's nervous he's not an unintelligent man he's a very empathetic intelligent man once you get over the sort of gimmick of it it's actually just kind of like a basis for something interesting and it's just better than you know like Goggin Livio so much better actually much better it's so good it is just a real life manche because it's Bell wobble I mean it's just well yeah you can also look at the previous one but also me stop going back on the air I remember when we started doing the podcast because we hadn't talked for like a few years cuz I was going over season he went overseas and his wife kiddies if your high school what what what what I remember from it is I started doing the podcast with you and I remember hearing your mind set on what the music industry was yeah and you were saying it's all about connections it's just about if you're like [ __ ] the right person that's all they give a [ __ ] about and I just remember saying yeah but how much music have you released and you're just like good not but since that since that it's not me per se just changing his mind because Tony Robbins changed my mind and all the self-help gurus are into it before that this is just a single instant but somebody needs to teach you the soup and so yes yeah but the thing is like because you hadn't read those books and I had yeah I remember being able to change a few of those fundamental beliefs in your head yeah and I don't take credit for it I give all credit to this man but you did and I had like huge effects it has a fit because you've released a bunch of music now yeah ever leave a me do yeah I'm just like that was there before like compared to what I was doing by putting in so much more effort and actually getting stuff done you know been reasonably you know reasonable times as I've said on this pot as I've said on this show thousand times oh I pay you out all the time but also I'm always pointing out on this show all the time what I'm saying though is that miss la is not a not talented man he is actually one of the most challenging musicians I know it especially because you've started with violin and then going these guitar is just like going down from like learning how to play or using a nuclear reactor and then nuclear reactors who were drone yeah sure yeah miss la is look he is incredible you can just say now do classical gaps and the accident is evidenced in the official publisher do but without this talent that's not I think yeah Allen DS nothing if you don't have the right mindset yeah because if you sit there and he's belief that all that happens is that somebody comes along and taps you on the shoulder joint even randomly while you're like pumping hands with their master and just because I assume you're a good musician sure that's all of it like yeah he wasn't born into the right family he was basically going like he's never going to happen because I'm not Michael Jackson's son look this is the other thing as well this book I give full credit to the fact that you even know who I am you would not know who I am it is meetings of trainees that's crazy because you basically found I thought you were joking about sorry that you found it in your uni library right like it's such a like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory thing just like a joke you know it's like there's no way like this yes all right but I'll do it anyway it's cool it's really sorry going good but the thing is that now that a few of his beliefs have changed he's productivity is increased you see how it works that you can just say that like yeah doing is all what it's about and I say that time as well that is true does that mean itself is a belief that's the power of belief that he talks about in this that if you don't have the belief that getting action will get you somewhere you don't do anything yes you sit there and say but what's the point of me doing anything yeah am i afraid you worry don't know me and then I look at your music as well and on top of that it's not like it was bad to begin with but it up yeah yes you're putting morning is my witness just naturally it gets bigger it's like osmosis and look there's another saying which it's probably in the book where it's just like if you're if you're if you're stuck on something I mean this is more just like if you're trying to be creative if you're stuck on something it's like just like without any rationalization just do like even if it's anything even if it's even if you write three arbitrary words you know if I'm like let's let's say if you're writing or something three arbitrary words and it's like and I've done this I try this and like almost without fail almost that fail it arm sparks it sparks it so it's like it's almost like I I do feel like it's kind of like starting you know starting that the train is is really hard then you get this sort of like osmosis where it's like sorry like an inertia where you just it becomes easier and like if you if you sort of follow this very basic I mean if you basically just consistently if you consistently act it's easier it's like building a bridge and it's hard it comes habit and on top of that you're describing actually they look I'm gonna get torn apart as always cuz English I might even mention anything in someone's like I owe more on this subject in you know done she's on every little doesn't know anything about science like I opened up a brief history of time looked at the page first page didn't know forty percent of the words I just started laughing I was just like easy singing English but I think it's like Newtonian or something like that it takes three parts of energy to get something moving yeah once it's moving it only takes one part of energy to keep it move right then it's just for the earth then everyone yes another thing that they're saying is that whatever your brain is doing it wants to continue doing oh well yeah see ya there see it's almost it's cool that you do this stuff like the channel because it's just in that sign I guess is frustrating because maybe it's just like the way your brain sort you know if you don't train yourself into it your brain sort of goes back to lapses back into that sort of idea it's like it's hard and stuff because you know it's not a romantic I think look it's not it not everyone's as creative trying to make it in creative endeavors and like that's mad like I'm actually happy for you it's like something whatever someone has to do a job to buy yeah counts yeah you have to be an accountant to buy the app but basically everyone that listens to this channel is AM user be surprised if there is not one that doesn't every single person's always like dude that's gonna change man that's it that's mad because basically I think you know that idea of that idea it's like it's not romantic it's not romantic to be like it's you know no one wants to think that a creative endeavor is repetitive and sometimes monotonous and sometimes you know what other words would you assume it like isolating all of these sort of like realities that's not that's not the perception perception is that it's like romantic and it's sort of like is this a radial thing that you sort of grab from the air and so go now it's yeah you just like throw it out there and like you mold a little bit and you know now it's there and like that's that's not the reality and I think the more it's almost like it's not being like being like that sucks but just being like look that's one of these am I willing to give it a crack the other way which is just like consistently try to try to it's a sad thing that was attacking Jordan Peterson just going like your ideas are simple there's so media like yeah that's one and it's just it's like look most solutions in life are simple its complicated one sure but in most things yes it's not the ideas solution it's not sexy but it exists yeah it's very simple to implicate but as I was saying simple does not equal easy because your brain wants you to just constantly if you're not doing something it'll just sit there and come up with reasons for you to not do something that's how you exactly exactly I mean it's it's almost a view and look I am the best proponent the best example of someone to be like I have to like constantly remind myself and like raid this stuff my fight is because my natural inclination is to be like well you know Red Dead Redemption one can be replayed you know like so like it's so it's like and that's not cool if you're true look that's fine if that's what you want to do but that's and that's not fine if you expect results from something and you don't put the evidence like it's just like not look if it did work that way then the universe would be a even a weed or a place you know I think what and love this is very this - criticisms that I just want to dissect before we go here the main two criticisms of Tony Robbins as always he's a snake oil salesman as Miss Slavs pointed out is anything - they say yeah I don't buy that I don't buy that is teaching you universal truths that apply to 60s across any field and there's nothing in this and nothing there's not there's no trickery than exactly there's nothing like there's no there's no smoke and mirrors like it's it's you think it is but like like you were saying with the Jordan piercing it's like a lot of the time if it's in terms of productivity the answers are really simple and personally it's very hard for me to get my head around a lot of time I have to constantly remind myself like specially remember bashing into my brain but they are simple like really simple answers to that kind of thing so it's not like he's just like what you want to do is like eat this vegetable or like you know it's it's all chapter on that game but yeah I have read all there you go maybe it's just like you know unique but like that is another thing that I mean take the hilarity as a topic as a Peppa Pig take the hilarity as like an endearing thing to bring you in yes Jordan convinced me a great way yeah Jordan convinced I mean how much more convincing do you need this man's a hilarious dude that like it's the same photo but don't worry about it guys just today and then one sees the real-life Krusty the Klown professional does it great you just like you say all right guys you got let's a busy man obviously you've got the shirt oh my gosh thanks great have a great almost see you next time like time to take photos that's
