FSD 14.3.10 Was NOT Supposed to Handle This transcript

Hi everyone, it's time for another full self-driving video. Yes, I just put one out, but I got 14.3.10. These updates have becoming fast and furious, and I'm actually all for it, and I like that we're iterating on things. I'm going to follow the mold that I set yesterday when I filmed my last video, which was making sure that we really stress FSD as much as possible. So, we have a whole new route. And if you haven't seen my new route on my last video, you're more than welcome to go check out how 14.3.9 did as a baseline, but you're also going to see the same thing here.

So, we're going to do 14.310 through town through different parking situations because that seems to be where the rough spots are. We're going to go through a bunch of roundabouts through going to some questionable road type of coverage and potholes and all kinds of dips. So hopefully you're going to see something entertaining and hopefully FSD is going to do really, really well. We're going to start this out right out of the gate by going through a large roundabout.

And as I said before, Mary and Iowa has a lot of roundabouts and it's just something that's kind of popped up over the last several years. And unfortunately, they don't really do a lot in training Ians on how to actually perform in these roundabouts. So, it can be a little questionable at times. Right now, we're at the very start of the lunch hour on a Friday, and we're hopefully going to see some traffic and some things to stress it out, but we're going to be coming up to our first challenge, which will be a smaller roundabout that necks down into a single lane.

Traffic is pretty light right here. Uh for the moment we should be getting over. We'll see if that does that. We do have a small signal. We're getting over and if see if we encounter any traffic. We are slowing down anticipating that that car might have been coming across. But for the most part, we're just going to blow right through this which is going to lead us into our downtown area. And to be honest, these are types of situations that I haven't really challenged FSD on camera, but I I drive these roads all the time.

And if you have FSD, you know just what it can do most of the time. But if you don't and you're following videos like this, I'm trying to show you that I think we need to raise the bar now with what's considered to be a typical drive because it's getting so hard to point out where the rough spots are. We've got cobblestone here. handled it like a champ. We got some favorable lights we're going to blow through here so we don't have to sit around and wait.

But, uh, we're going to be coming up to our third roundabout of this video so far. And this tends to be a little busier and we're going to be going through uh and out the left side of it because we're going to be stopping at a Dunkin Donuts to see how well we can park in the parking lot. It does seem to be a little confused there as far as what lane it wanted to be in, but again, there's no traffic at the moment, so it's just going to go ahead and blow through.

It ultimately decided it wanted to be in the right lane, which is the right place to be because that's where we're going for Duncan. You know, winter is just around the corner and it is vital that you have a good set of floor mats to protect your car. Looks like it's going to have us come in the back. I really wish it came in the front because the parking spots on this side are pointed or angle. I don't know. It probably doesn't know that. So, we're going to go ahead and go in here and we're going to see what we can do. Last time it pulled through on the other side and parked. Will it do the same or will it circle around? We shall see. So, this is our first parking challenge.

And it's picking a spot here at an angle spot. And it's person next to me isn't exactly parked very well, but it's doing its best to thread its way in here. All right, first parking spot done. Did a decent job. Let's go ahead and continue. See whether or not we go out the front or if we snake around the back. Last time it did decide to go around out the back. Not faulting it for that. Overall, FSD is really becoming a staple in my life and many other people's lives.

It's just it's like it's it's it's hard to think about driving manual anymore. And it it's it's a little difficult to kind of wrap my brain around that still given that I've driven all of my life. And I even consider myself that I like driving uh most of the time. But there are periods of time when you just don't want to drive. And you're finding that as I'm getting older, it's a matter of what do I want to be doing with my time?

And it's not just driving. It's other things like mowing the lawn. Do I really want to be taking time out of my day to mow the lawn or should I be hiring some kid to mow the lawn so I can spend my time doing things that I find of value? Um, now if you like mowing the lawn and you enjoy doing that type of yard work, yeah, that's great. More power to you. But I'm not one of those people. All right, nice righthand turn.

We did wait for traffic. It's all good. This next stop is not an actual stop, so we're going to edit this trip. It's just for me to get on the back side of the downtown area so we can swing around. But I will go ahead and cancel that out as soon as we get past this next light. Hopefully, we'll get lucky and we're able to parallel park. At least that's the goal. We'll have two opportunities on this drive to potentially do that.

All right, let's go ahead and cancel out. Hit done. Last time it tried to turn right and it tried to do it again. This is actually a culde-sac you can't get through, but it it signaled like it was going to turn right and ultimately decided that that wasn't the right way to go. Uh coming up to our four-way stop here. We'll make a right. We'll flip around the block and we'll see if we can find a place to park on the street.

Overall, this drive is doing really, really well. No interventions, no breakouts. And the decision-making process is very much like what I would do as a human being. Always stop here, let this large truck clear, and we'll see if we can find a place to park here in downtown. You see, there's a couple spots right up here on the right, but we're about a block away. Oh, we've got a parked porta potty here. Let's see how it handles that.

Okay, going around. Looks like we have plenty of places to park, so it shouldn't have any excuse here. What are we going to do this time? It is going to pseudo parallel park, but it knew that it didn't have to do a true parallel park and it just pulled right in to a spot. Look at that. That is very cool. And we're basically right next to our destination. So, let's go ahead and get going to our next spot. We're backing up, which is exactly what I would do.

Little hard stop there. I wonder if it was because of the oncoming car that just passed us. But we're going to go ahead and go and make this rightand turn. And it's going to take us up through a small, really tight roundabout. Nice Model Y right here on the right hand side. It's really nice to see so many Teslas in smaller town Iowa. um they aren't as prevalent as they are in in other places. I have uh my son lived in the Boulder area and I had a little mental challenge for myself where I would just count to 30 in my head and if I could get to 30 without seeing another Tesla besides my own, I would say that I won that bet.

And I would go a whole weekend with not being able to count beyond 30 before I saw another Tesla. They are just everywhere out there. not quite as prevalent here, but it's not like the the good old days when I first bought my first Tesla back in 2020 where they were few and far between. Now, Cybert trucks, that's a different story. We don't have too many of those in the area. I bet there's no more than a half a dozen, and I only see one maybe once every couple of months.

And I know that that's crazy for a lot of you that watch these videos that probably see them on a daily basis if you don't own one. Obviously, if you own one, you're going to see it all the time. Here's this roundabout. This is a kind of a weird lowlying roundabout. It's kind of a curb base. I think it's designed that if you've got a large truck that you're got to go ahead and drive right over the center of it. We're making a lefthand turn here.

Going ahead and edit this trip. I'm going to take As soon as we make this turn, I'm going to take out this spot here because this is just a means to an end to get us to make this turn. Although it seems to be wanting to pull over. Maybe I didn't catch it in time. Okay, that was a little strange. I did a a pullover. It did a pullover even though I I cancelled the waypoint. I didn't touch the brake. I didn't touch the gas and it just went.

Now, now we're getting into some places where the road can be a little questionable. We've got dips. We got potholes. We got uneven surfaces. And I want to just make sure that it is handling these at the appropriate speed. And so far we're doing like less than 20 mph, which is the appropriate speed here. Left-hand turn. And I told it to go ahead and park on the street. It's going to pull over. Is it going to pull over and stop?

Gets us close to the curb, which is exactly where you'd want to be. All right, I'll call that a win. Let's go ahead and keep going on this trip. Again, my only job so far has been to just tell it where I want it to go and hit the blue button. Everything else has been doing it all on its own. One thing that FSD is still working on in my opinion, and I guess it's doing the legal way now, is that it's stopping short of the stop sign.

And then usually in most places with stop signs, you can't see cross traffic. So, it's got to inch forward. So, it's it's always a two-step process where it me being more familiar with the area would just go ahead and inch or stop right up to the point where we would be able to see. See if it does it again here. Again, stop short. No inch that time. Got a large dip here. It's taking it at a very nice pace. And now we're speeding up.

I'm really impressed with this version. And I think I'm seeing even a slightly better uptick over 14.3.9 with this version 10 here. Very humanlike. And it's hard to imagine when or how this is going to get all that much better. Um, we're ready for robo taxi. I'm ready for my personal robo taxi. I have one now. Just by law have to be sitting here in order to make it work. But for the longest time, I'm at 99% plus in FSD driving and the other less than 1% is by choice.

Right roundabout, that person paused, probably should have gone. Again, Iowa driver is not exactly understanding what's going on, but uh let's go ahead and see if we can find a place to parallel park up here. Last time it turned right here and parked on the street. Is it going to do that again? Really? Okay, it's going to do it again. The restaurant we're going to is right over here on the left, but it's going to go ahead and do what it did yesterday and pull into this spot.

Probably should have looked at it. It looked like the nav had us doing that anyway, but uh let's go ahead and continue from here. It's going to involve us needing to back up to get out of here, which it is doing just fine. Good signal and we'll make our way through some residential with some tighter street parking. Full stop. No traffic all around. So there's no rolling stops. I was saying this before. Uh we always come up to the stop sign.

We always come to a full and absolute zero mph stop. Inch forward if possible and then we go. Um, not bad, but uh certain parts of the country that's a little awkward and uh people might give you a sideways look, but overall if that's where we're to this point now, I think we're we're in good shape. Going to be making our way kind of across back the way that we came just on a different side road. We'll be taking uh going past the school and it is during the school day here.

So, we'll see if we have any reduced speed limits here. Not actually seeing any signs. This is a a middle school. So, speed through there was fine. Although, I will admit that doesn't appear to be any markings saying that there was a school zone of any kind, but speed was fine. Waiting our turn on this four-way stop. That was all appropriate. They was perfect. you know, gota wonder, you know, where is this going to go?

I mean, those you have FSD, I mean, where where are the pain points? I'm just I'm not seeing them. Not really seeing them at all. And this is we're to the point where I think we're to an inflection point here with FSD where it's really going to open up mobility for so many people that may not be overly confident in driving. My parents are picking up their first Tesla next week, hopefully on Tuesday if everything goes well.

Uh my dad's going to be 80 and uh my mom's going to be 77 78. Uh and you know, as my dad said, you know, he's not getting any better at driving. In fact, he's probably uh getting worse. I'm getting worse. And it's not that they can't drive. It's just that having FSD and allowing them to supervise that drive and take over if necessary is exactly where they are in their life. where they may not feel comfortable actually driving all by themselves uh in the long term.

Who knows? And FSD just opens that up. And then when we get to unsupervised, if we get to unsupervised hopefully, then it kind of takes it up to a completely new level where you've got people that just simply can't drive, people that have some sort of disability. You have someone that you know that is blind or just has other sort of medical conditions that just prevent them from driving whatsoever and they're relying on so many other people to get around.

Having a car that can drive you even at a hundred bucks a month is going to be a gamecher for all of these people. All right, here we go. So, we're going to our last destination and that is a grocery store because I want to see how well it can hit a pin. And right now, it has us coming in the backside and I want to change that. We'll go ahead and select the top menu and we'll go ahead and just select a new route. You can do that anytime you want.

Doesn't always give you the options that you want, but you can do it anytime that you want. So, we have one stop light to go through, one to turn left on. We'll get in there and we'll see if we can come close to hitting our pin. I will admit that in the past, um, those pins, those saved pins would move around on me, uh, move on around on me quite a bit. And I have to admit that I haven't seen them move in the last couple of versions.

So maybe they got that problem fixed because it's really good for those of us that like to park in certain spots at places we go to often. Um, I like to park out and away from people. I know a lot of people do. And it's nice to be able to drop a pin and save that as a favorite and then go to that favorite location and have it park in your general parking spot that you like it to park at. All right, lefthand turn. Last lefthand turn through a light.

See, we do not have a yellow or I'm sorry, a green turn arrow. So, we have to wait for traffic. Shouldn't be a problem. We'll pop into this grocery store parking lot, which can be a little bit of a free-for-all, but let's go ahead and see what we do. Says we're going to be making a left and curving around, which is all good. I wouldn't have put my turn signal on there, but that's okay. This is the right row. Should be parking about right where that white car is in front of us.

We'll see where it parks. Hopefully, it won't park right next to it. and it kind of parks next to the car in front of it. So, all right. So, in the sense that there is a dropped pin, we can see here right on the screen, we got pretty darn close to that drop pin within a parking spot. So, I'll call that a win. So, there you have it. 14.310 first drive in the books. What are my thoughts? Well, this thing's good. It's It's really good.

It's getting scary good and I'm really struggling to try to figure out where the weak points are. And it kind of just depends on drive to drive and the situation.
