Hello everyone. Welcome back to another episode on collocations. The topic today is transportation. Now let's look at the phrases that can be useful for your speaking. One, travel by car, travel by bus, travel by train, travel by plane, travel by bicycle. Those are the different means of transport that you can use. Two, take public transport. It is when you use buses or trains for your transport. Three, get around the city.
When you get around the city, you move around the city. Four, commute to work or commute to school. It is to travel daily for your school or your work. Number five, you miss a bus or a train or you catch a bus or the train. It means you fail to or you succeed in boarding a train or a bus. Six, drive, ride, walk or fly. Those are different modes of movement. Seven, get stuck in traffic or be stuck in traffic. It means you are delayed by road congestion.
Eight, get off or get on a vehicle. is when you board or you leave a vehicle. When you get into or you get out of a car or a taxi. You board or you leave a car or a taxi. One, convenient, efficient, reliable. Those are the good qualities of transportation. Two, slow, fast, delayed, or on time. It refers to the speed and punctuality of a means of transport, usually public transport. Three, comfortable, crowded, spacious or noisy.
That refers to the rider experience. Four, echofriendly, clean, sustainable. It is the group of words refer to the good quality and those are green. Five, affordable, expensive, or cost effective. That refers to the levels of price. Number six, modern, outdated, well-maintained or unsafe. This is the infrastructure quality. Seven, public, shared, private, and personal. that refers to the ownership or the access to public transport.
Number eight, accessible inaccessible. It refers to the level of comfort or easiness to access or use. Number nine, clean, dirty, or well equipped. It refers to the conditions and features of the transport means that you use. Now let's look at the expressions and idioms related to transportation. One, we have missed the boat. Miss the boat is another way to say miss an opportunity. Two, hit the road. When you hit the road, you begin a journey.
If you live in the fast lane, it means you live a busy and exciting life. If you are on the right track, you are making progress. If you are at a crossroads, you are at a decision point in your life. Six, drive somebody crazy. It means when you annoy or you upset somebody. [clears throat] If something is a bumpy ride, it is a difficult experience for you. Number nine, take the scenic route. It means you take the longer but more beautiful way.
