SC Shakedown - S-LOK Cummerbund // Shaw Concepts transcript

[music] >> How's it going, guys? Today we're going to be introducing you to the first of several S-Lock integrated items, and we're starting off with the S-Lock cummerbunds. The S-Lock cummerbunds are a next-generation load-bearing cummerbund that replaces both the ARC cummerbund [music] and the MSR cummerbund within our lineup. Today we'll be going over what is S-Lock, the cummerbund's design, features, and employment.

Let's start off with what is S-Lock. S-Lock, or Shaw Lock, is [music] our sort of play on words based on M-Lock, and at its most basic level, S-Lock is a patent-pending connection system that allows front and rear assemblies [music] to quickly mate together. What this means is that cummerbunds can have different front sleeves, rapid sizing, chest rigs can be scaled up to plate carriers [music] and down vice versa by simply swapping out what you have on the front and [music] rear, as well as the shoulder straps, and it makes it super quick to fit different mission sets uh in a short period of time.

Ultimately, you can choose to have armor on both sides, armor [music] on the front temporarily while having a chest rig harness on the back, or just building out a, you know, sole-purpose traditional chest [music] rig, and there's a lot of possibilities beyond that. The most important part of this is that you can scale up and down while still having your front remain unaffected and remain the exact [music] same whether armored or not.

That's your mags, radios, comm setup, all that can stay the same, and that is what S-lock really offers at the end of the day. Moving on now, the S-lock cummerbund consists of a sleeve side and a plug side. The sleeve side has a directional snap and a safety cover on the plug side, >> [music] >> that way it can be tightened up. And if you recognize this from our U Scepter outer belt, you'd be correct, as this is an adapted form from our belt system.

Essentially, you slide the plug in, snap the snap in one of the windows, and secure the Velcro one-wrap tab. >> [music] >> So, what does this S-lock mechanism really offer you on a cummerbund alone? Well, it offers interchangeable [music] sleeves, so you can have your preference of a 3-in profile and a 5-in profile. It means that you can also have different loadouts on different sleeves, get the one-size-fits-all sizing on here, but also rapid adjustments in the field if you choose to scale [music] up side plates or really thick cold weather layers, or if you're just happening bulking or cutting at that time.

Now, with S-lock thoroughly covered, let's get into these cummerbunds. Both of the sleeves feature First Spear Tubes on the front that plug into the included Velcro tube flap. These tubes can be removed from the flaps and attached to our placards if you want to cut down the bulk on the front. So, you don't have to buy these separately if you are purchasing the ARC placard V4, the ARC MOLLE placard, or the elastic placard V2 along with this.

The S-lock sleeves are offered in a 3-in height and a 5-in height and feature MOLLE slots on the front as well as on the back for side plate pouches. The back also includes soft loop Velcro for other plate uh pouches out there, and it also will attach our side uh Stratus fit pads as well for comfort. Those are sold separately. Both sleeves feature full thermoplastic reinforcement from end to end, [music] and the tail end has the S-lock mechanism.

The key difference between the 3-in and the 5-in is that the 5-in just offers another two rows of MOLLE. So, if you're running a lot of pouches that you want properly mounted, the 5-in is going to be best for you. And the same goes if you really want to cover up a side plate or different armor [music] types in here and just have them fully covered up with some protection, that also works out really well in the 5-in. Both options come with the same rear core.

These are a thicker than normal plastic [music] skeleton wrapped in a Cordura laminate that provides MOLLE slots for pouches so you can run it from the sleeve over to the core and sizing windows in the middle here. Lastly, the cummerbunds do [music] come with two sets of 8-in and 3/16-in shock cord so that you can kind of dial in the amount of flexibility or stretch you have in the backside. Setting up the S-Lotto cummerbund is simple.

You'll take [music] your respective core and sleeve and undo the one-wrap strap on the backside, unsnap it, and then you'll take [music] your side-specific core and you'll slide it into the slot. [music] You'll make sure both of the etch marks are also legible and on the same side. You'll slide it to your desired window, but for this we'll go ahead and just start here in the middle. Snap it shut. Pull out the slack. And then you're going to take that one-wrap strap and you're going to put it through its same window, not over the rung, but on the same window, and then go ahead and tighten it down.

You'll go ahead and do this on both of your sides, like that. Then you'll go ahead and take your plate carrier. Here we have our ARC Carrier V2. We're going to go ahead and open this guy up. Take out your plate so it's easier to achieve all of this. And you're going to take your two cummerbund guys and you're going to slide them into the bottom two ports here, [music] as this is how you get your plates to really fit properly with the two-band cummerbund.

So, slide them in on either side. Like that. Now that we have the cummerbunds inserted into the ports on the backside, we're going to go ahead and take care of the shock cord. [music] One note when it comes to sizing the S lock cummerbunds is to balance it out between the shock cord here as well as your mechanisms here. So you don't want to rely fully on one or the other [music] to get your sizing. You want to do a little bit of both to get it really dialed in.

For this we're going to go ahead and use both the 3/16 and the 1/8 in >> [music] >> to actually demonstrate different levels of stretch on this. But you're pretty much going to probably start from about the middle point and then [music] work outboard if you determine that you need some more, you know, sizing. So you're going to come through the bottom here. Just like that. [music] And you're going to stick this out of the roughly uh fourth [music] hole there.

And get them to basically balance out just like that. We'll do the same thing quickly over here. From here you're just going to take your shock cord [music] and run it through the bottom. Loop. And then you're going to run it through the hole there. Back up. And through that top port. Now these are a little bit different lengths, so [music] all we're going to do is balance them out by pulling some of the slack out of the long one and feeding it to our short side real quick.

Now with these a little bit evenly matched, we're just going to go ahead [music] and do a overhand knot with the two ends. And from here you can take that excess and just tuck it into the holes so they go into the plate bag and do not just sit there >> [music] >> in the way. So you can tuck them both into their respective holes. And then just tuck them away. Same thing for these guys. After that, you can go ahead and take your rear plate.

Insert it into the pocket. All the way to the top. And >> [music] >> secure your flap. All the way in. Now, when it comes to how you set up the front side, this is really up to you. You can either use our placards with tubes on the side to connect directly, and that is the preferable method, or you can use the included Velcro flaps. If you choose to use the included Velcro flaps, >> [music] >> you're just going to connect to the tube.

And then lay it at the height that you desire. If you choose to use the placard, you're just going to go ahead and plug in the placard to the carrier. Pull it down. Make sure it's the height you want. And then pretty much from there, you're just taking your cummerbunds, sliding them on the front. And then you can go ahead and put it on and validate [music] your sizing. When it comes to validating the sizing, you're going to go ahead and put it on.

And if you determine that, "Hey, this is a little bit too loose." you can then pretty [music] much go ahead and open this guy up. Pop your directional snap. And you can then feed it deeper onto the next window, [music] just like that. Snap it in place. Pull the slack out. And then slide your Velcro tab on the inside and lay it down. If you find that, "No, you actually need to like loosen it up." you're just going to do pretty much the opposite by again, removing the strap, snap, slide it to the next available window, snap it up.

And laying it down. That's primarily for large macro adjustments, but if you want to make a little bit more dialed-in [music] adjustments that aren't in, you know, 1 and 1/2 inch increments, you're going to go back to your rear plate bag. And you can go ahead and just take a look at your knots and just loosen them up to give you a little [music] bit more adjustment, or you can go ahead and tighten them up. Obviously, there is a uh min-max here [music] for how you do that, but that's again how the micro and macro adjustments are made to get the perfect fit.

In conclusion, the S-Lok cummerbund is a product of our nonstop development and refusing to accept good enough. We've updated our user belt system into a [music] larger S-Lok system that allows for so many options that end users can take advantage of to build a kit to their ever-changing mission set or role. At launch, the S-Lok cummerbund will be offered in the complete profile with 3-in >> [music] >> and 5-in profile sleeves, and it'll be offered in MultiCam, Coyote Brown, Ranger Green, and Black on July 3rd.

In the future, we may offer the sleeves separately, so you can also add them all a carte [music] to have different options, but that won't be the case at launch.
