Man Kicks Flight Attendant In The Chest, Then Fights 4 Officers transcript

STAY BACK. >> There's a very short list of things that will make a commercial airliner turn around and come back to the airport it just left. This is one of them. On March 10th, 2025, American Airlines flight 4162 took off from Savannah and then it turned around and came back. Not for weather, not for mechanical. It came back because a passenger in the cabin had just kicked the flight attendant in the chest hard enough to throw her across the aisle and into the wall of the aircraft.

By the time that plane reconnected to the jet bridge, the passengers had him pinned on the floor. Officers were already waiting outside the door and through the little window in the aircraft door, they could see the fight still going on before they were even allowed on board. What happens next takes four officers, three taser deployments, a pair of surgical shears handed over by a passenger, and a spit mask. And when it's finally over, the FBI shows up.

These are the events that unfolded. >> Hey, this is Ellie with American. I need What date are we going to take it to? >> Is it 10? >> 6. Uh six is actually the gate and we need airport PD needed on the arrival. >> I just got a call from someone. So you're sure it's going to gate six now? >> Yes, it's going to gate six now. I just got word of the info and I just wanted to make sure it was >> No, you're fine. We've got about >> There's no discursion. Somebody just got a a flight got assaulted. And we're for sure in gate six now, right? Yeah, it's for sure. >> For sure. Okay, perfect. We're going to discuss now. Both right together to see what was wrong. He started kicking the butt and he pushed her away. They both moved to the back, get them on went on and off into screaming, kicking and screaming.

By the time that we turned her around to go back, they sort of stopped for a bit. >> So they rested the way back. She was quiet and then once we landed I bought one like >> he was kind of like that like this. It just didn't feel real. >> And then here's a video during the landing. He was sitting like that and then it started kicking. He was like agitated doing that. This is already after the episode. His watch is on the ground like the chairs already kicked in.

And then kind of was happening on the on the landing. >> This was um during this was at 849 land. >> Oh yeah. This is during landing or during your taxi. I'm sorry. >> Unstable, chaotic, scary, unpredictable. I don't know what that was. >> Do either one of them speak English? >> Cuz it sounded like it almost sounded like French to me, but I'm not 100% sure. >> I know the lady speaks English. >> Yeah, she was speaking English to me. >> She was singing a song. >> She was singing a song in French, I think.

So, I'm going to take a guess. I think that was the hand. >> I heard that on the Olympics. >> Do you need their names? Cuz we have here they put their stuff up. They didn't do anything. >> So they were flying from here. >> Yes. >> To Miami. >> So did you even get in the air or do you have to turn around? >> They had to turn around. It happened literally on time. Wow. Okay. >> So then they said what? >> They said they were just arguing and in in their language.

They couldn't really tell >> get something from him like what happened. >> But let me tell you, you were so calm close to him that that actually made me calm and like this dude some some reason he's he's got >> as long as he didn't take it too long. >> Well, he was doing the rosary be >> or rosary whatever his gums were bleeding, weren't they? Okay. >> So, were you able to tell? Was she part of it or was he just hanging on to her? >> No, they there were they seemed like they know each other as far cuz they both came in together and traveling together and she was from what I saw keeping him calm trying to >> she was holding his hand while he was going nuts.

She he was holding her hand and she was chill. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, nothing inside to help us. She didn't react to his outburst at all in any way. She didn't look up. She didn't reply to us. She did nothing. >> Okay. >> It was weird. >> It was like he was having it was like like >> No, he was saying it was like a mental episode. Like he was saying something religious like the whole time like chanting >> and he was going >> and he wouldn't look up >> and he wouldn't look up.

Yeah. He would have his eyes closed like fearful like he was afraid of something >> like because if it was like just I'm afraid and that's why I'm kicking. I just like everybody get the away from me. >> And yelling super loud loud enough that under here and heard. Okay. >> And I missed the whole story, but you got >> kicked at some point. >> Yeah, it was right before we got the door open. I told everybody to stay seated.

I didn't know what he was going to do. He got up. >> So, was he looking at you when he kicked you or was just like a random kicking and he kicked the other side, >> but he was he was doing this. He >> swinging one arm and holding his wife with the other. He was like coming towards her like this. >> And then I got cornered into here and that's when he got into here. No, I think you said you you need to stay seated. Suddenly I think you might have said something to stay seated. >> Yeah, I think you said something about and that's when he started coming like this and with one arm >> cuz he started he started punching us over here once he got here like >> I tried I was like sorry you have to stay seated and I knew he was >> I just a bit of a blur. >> And then as soon as he got me here then you I you guys came back pulled them off. pilot. >> Now, when he cornered you up here, were his eyes open or was he still kind of eyes shut? >> I don't kind of like just >> Yeah. girlfriend one his other arm and grab. >> He we never made eye contact. >> I don't think he was fine in the gate area.

I sat right across from both of them. They were fine. >> They were fine. They were calm and quiet. They weren't really talking very much. He got up and went to the gate agent. They called his name. Ticket agent called his name. Gave him a new boarding pass and came back and a smile like totally normal. >> All right. Again, >> hit with a fist in the arm. >> Kicked in the chest with a >> chest. Okay. >> Chest for her. >> Arm for her. >> Okay.

So, you got hit >> in the chest. >> Can you do you see any bruising or anything? Let me just double check real quick. >> Both of you both of you got kicked in the chest. >> She got kicked in the chest in flight, which is why we're like now. >> Okay. And then you got kicked in the chest. >> You guys could not have >> Okay. Just later on, >> but there was contact. >> There was contact. Yeah, it was pretty hard contact.

Okay. Which um which seat was damaged? >> To get to Santiago, they said there is a tan flight of these 148. >> It was all the way forward. Yeah, he kicked that one over to that flight as instead of one that we're probably going to miss that leaves. >> He kicked it all the way forward. So if you transfer to flight, it goes. Yeah, I don't know. He said if we get permission from you guys to do that and move our luggage to the >> Yeah.

When we got here, how how did they get up to the >> to the front or is that when he got up and went after >> That's when he went after her. >> Okay. >> Sir, I don't know his name. Tap him. Can you tell the officer how they came to the front cuz I was in the back so I had >> Yeah. We pulled up and um lights came on. She asked everybody to be seated with their seat belts fastened and then uh we stopped at the gate. Bong bong.

She got on the phone and then he took his seat belt off and stood up and then he walked to the front and as soon as he got off the carpet, he took a right and started swinging. >> Okay. >> You okay? >> But he had his partner with him. His his companion was real. Yeah. He had his companion by one arm and then just started >> whacking on her. >> Okay. Was she in she had he had her in front of him or was she behind her? >> He was in front of her. >> Yeah.

She was behind him in the aisle. It's went to the right. She kind of came up to the side of him and backed you into the corner. >> And so she was just >> So was he like dragging her along? She had his arm she had her arm like under him. Like her forearm was against his chest and he was kind of holding it. So it was kind of like under her. >> So she's kind of following him like this. And then when he took a right she kind of went to his side >> and she went to the galley. >> I didn't even realize she was there until I saw him.

They were both on the ground. >> Yeah. Cuz he never looked over arm. So when we dragged him down, she came down with him. >> Right. I just saw him going like this as hard as it possible and I was like I'm about to get like >> you know what >> that's why >> I'm about to get my teeth knocked out >> by this >> I was going to ask them for help >> but I didn't want to >> I thought that I was going to say can you guys help me the door was going to be open and you guys the us I meet him there.

It's like a door never open >> and then it's unfortunate. >> Um, so what what my understanding is that they're probably going to be both on the no fly list or whatever. >> So when it was over, he didn't walk off that plane. Officers carried him off by the arms and ankles onto the jet bridge and he went to the hospital before he ever saw the inside of the county jail. He was charged with two counts of battery, obstruction of an officer, and criminal damage to property.

That last one was for the seat he kicked apart before any of this started. The woman on the floor, the one whose hair had to be cut with shears to get her free, that was his sister. She told officers the two of them had been praying and that she had her eyes closed the whole time, so she never saw him hit anybody. She was released without charges. and two flight attendants went to work that night, asked the passenger if he was okay, and got assaulted for it.
