guys I want you to picture this you're at some sort of party or celebration and there's dancing involved and a mosh pit forms in the in the center and there's a circle someone pushes you in the middle you're supposed to do something cool something captivating what do you do you do a backflip The Crowd Goes Wild people make this reaction right here you want to feel that way you want to feel cool which is why today I'm going to teach you how to do a backflip yeah so the first thing you need to know is that this is inherently sexist men you're going to be able to get a back flip much easier than women according to the National Library of Medicine men have a much higher center of gravity than women men your center of gravity lies in your shoulder ERS and women ours that are hips so when a man goes to do a back flip he's going to gain height but women we're kind of going to get dragged down but don't worry about this we all know who Simone biles is right she's the best gymnast of all time better than any man so don't worry ladies we can do this so the first things you get you're going to need to do are some drills now I know this looks a little silly but in order to do a back flip you're going to need height you can't just throw a back flip without height you're going to land on your neck you're going to get hurt you may die so you need jump up you need to learn how to do this you can find a mat like this girl has here you can find a block or anything of that sort you need to learn how to get height and jump backwards the next Dr you're going to need to do this is called candlestick hold now a Candlestick hold right here is going to help you feel that feeling of getting your knees over your head I know it looks silly but this motion right here not many people do that on a regular basis I mean you don't practice this on your own but you're going to need to learn how to get your knees over your head and feel what it feels like to do a backflip and be upside down before you ever throw it now doing a backflip can be really scary without proper training it's very dangerous and this fear is really real and in fact there's a word for it in the Finnish language called flicky com the Journal of national sports psychology tells us that flicky camo was made because so many people had this real fear of flipping backwards flicky camo directly translates to mean fear of flipping backwards now I know a lot of you probably have never tried a backflip because a why would you and B it's terrifying flipping backwards is not something that you inherently are just going to be able to do in one day the thought of doing what I just did up here freaks people out so there's a word for it flicky com but these two drills are going to help you get over this flicky com and it's going to help you feel what it feels like and get you some muscle memory of how to do a back flip now this third and final drill does work best if you have a trampoline now I know not all of us have easy access to a trampoline I will say on my way to class today I did pass one on 10th Street at a fraternity house so if you really want to use one I'm sure you can use it there and they'd let you but if not you can always it's Adam Chow's house if not you can always use different resources like a mattress or a couch cushion or you could go to a local gym we're college students guys get creative we have weird resources let's use them this next drill right here is a guy on a trampoline and I'm going to show you what he does in this video he's going to jump backwards and his knees flip over his head let's watch that one more time onto his back and his knees flip over his head right there so this is a great drill that's going to get you feeling like you're actually doing a flip it's a little bit more intense than the last two drills and you're kind of getting your body ready for a backflip so once you have completely mastered these three drills and I mean Master them completely you can go ahead and try the backflip on the trampoline if you're a little nervous that's completely normal and fine you can add some mats or you can have a friends stand there for moral support or if they know how to spot you they can spot you as well but like I said it is imper imperative that you master these three skills and also guys no alcohol I know that gives you some liquid courage but absolutely no alcohol should be involved in this you will get hurt trust me now not from experience just been here just been around for a while so once you feel like you have mastered this drill completely you can go ahead and try the backflip on the ground now be safe about this don't be stupid don't do it on concrete or grass or anything like that you don't want to get hurt so be smart do your back flip on something cushiony and soft soon your back flips will look like this and you will have the coolest trick at the party thank you [Music] guys that's sick
