[Music] Donald Trump is tearing up the rules of how America deals with the world forgets an order based on predictable rules Donald Trump is running things in a way that Don Corleone might recognize might makes right rules don't apply and allies are shaken down this isn't diplomacy it's open bullying I've empowered you to be a tough guy I don't think you'd be a tough guy without the United States after that bust up Donald Trump cuts off the flow of weapons and intelligence to Ukraine his approach to Taiwan may be similar Taiwan and they don't pay us money for the protection the mob makes you pay money right for 80 years America built a global system of alliances security packs and trade agreements Trump sees little value of that to him America's partners are freeloaders and America's protection should come to the price he envisions a world based on Deal making where everything is up for grabs Territory Resources alliances and much more at the top of this hierarchy he sees America Next the big players Vladimir Putin XI Jin ping Muhammad bin Salman strong men with something to sell and threats to make and Below them are America's allies whose dependence and loyalty are weaknesses to exploit if we don't pay are you still going to protect us I said absolutely not you got toay pay you got to pay your bills Trump thinks he will make America richer and stronger but he will make the world more chaotic and America weaker strong arming Ukraine into minerals deal or imposing punitive tariffs on Canada and Mexico might secure short-term wins but he destroys trust Trump thinks he can abandon European Asian allies because America has beautiful oceans to protect it but the vastness of the Pacific did not prevent Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and distance offers even less protection today when Wars involve missiles space and cyberspace Trump is centering international relations around himself rather than America's institutions but how can he persuade his counterparts that any agreement will hold after he leaves office in four years Donald Trump often likes to describe geopolitics as a game of cards one in which he always holds the winning hand but sooner or later someone might call his blood [Music]
