How I Learned to Make Botanica Music using Baby Audio Grainferno transcript

[music] >> Welcome to my channel. My name is Tyler. So, recently I really like a type of music called Botanica and I watched a lot of video on YouTube how to create this kind of music. Sounds more like ambient and the nature combines together. But, it's talking about we need a lot of sound pack and very complicated on the sound design. But, recently Baby Audio released a new granular synthesis plugins called Granulator.

And after I play around with it, I immediately got some inspiration. I can use this plugins to create Botanica music. By the way, this is my first Botanica music and I know I still have a lot of ways I need to twist it. But, in this video I will going to show you how I use this plugins to create this type of music. So, let me know in the comment below what do you think about this demo. All right, so let's dive into the logic and I show you what it sounds like.

So, if you follow my channel before, you will know I really like granular synthesis because that type of sounds can make the music more interesting. So, before I use a lot of like Lunacy Audio Beam and also Arturia Fragments. These two plugins, which is a effects plugins. But, in Granulator, which is a instrument plugins. So, inside you will have a lot of preset, which have 1.5 gigabytes of preset you can use it. So, I already like prefer some of the sounds and I will give you have a listen what it sounds like. >> [music] [music] >> So, you can hear there are lots of texture, right?

So, basically they are using two samples to blend together with this some grand movement, filter, LFO to recreate this type of the sounds, which is I really really like. So, if you don't want to dive in too much in the advanced design page, you can go to the play interface. So, you can like pick up another sample sounds and you will immediately change the sounds. So, let's say re-random. Pick two different sample. >> [music] >> So, in this play interface, you can also add some adjustment.

And also, you can import your sample on it. Super easy to just drag and drop into it. And then, you can also put all your sample under here, which is more easy for you to use your sample directly in the next project. So, there is also a knob that you can like blend how much you want the sounds on the first sample or second sample. So, when you put it to the top, you will hear only the top sample. So, after you put it back to the under, and blend together.

And you can also move the sound starting point. >> [music] [music] >> On the other hand, you can also add six different effects sounds on it. You can like adjust different position and you can choose different effects type. So, let's hear some more sample that I really like. >> [music] [music] >> To be honest, for granular plugins, I always feel like which is perfect for ambient music. In just one preset, you will have infinite idea by picking up different sample sounds and play around with it. >> [music] [music] >> The movement, the texture, which is amazing.

And you are so easy to create this type of like glitchy sounds. Which is I really like. >> [music] [music] >> So, now let's hear what it sounds like this demo and I want by one to break it down how I create it. >> [music] >> So, like I said, I still have a lot of things need to adjust it. Basically, this type of music they usually use audio a lot. So, I will be demonstrate you in the MIDI so you will have more easy to understand what it sounds like rather than I chop it up.

But, for like I'm not sure should will I just finish this chat. But, for the future, I will like bounce in place and chop up different sounds to like randomly to put it in different position will make this type of music more like the brief and relieve something like that. So, first thing what inspired me to create this Botanica, which is about this preset. Because this preset already have that type of sounds that I'm really really want to create.

So, here is the sounds. Just put it into the cart and I'm using my ambient chord progression pack. You can check all the link in description below. So, basically this sounds is just inspired me to create this track. So, this layer all from the Granulator plugins and I added two like piano chord and melody. And after that, which is some nature sounds because this type of music we got a lot of like water sounds, river sounds or maybe some nature of the wood, the leaves, something like that.

And then, I put it a lot of like randomly to give it more like very texture now. So, after that in the opening, I also found that one preset that sounds very nice. Just add one note at the very beginning. So, when you like blend together, you got that starting point, right? So, next step I added one pad sounds to layer on it to give it more like that airy ambient type feeling. So, this is also another preset called "A Path of Bliss".

And then, which it sounds like this. And also, I used it the same chord progression and just added the EQ and the reverb. So, the second part of the chat, I take it out this intro sounds. Just give it some more different layer. But, basically I will have to like rearrange it in the future. So, next step we will the bass sounds, which is also a preset a side chain bass. And I think it's so good for add the some layer rhythm on it.

So, I just added the long note of the root notes and do a high cut. >> [music] >> And I think it sounds good. And then I added a lot of different effect sounds. So basically these effect sounds also from the Grandfather and then I just make one note and bounce in place to like chop it up for rain storms they put into the track. So basically it is this sounds and I just randomly saving putting to the different bars so will give you something like the transition.

And found the another one. Just randomly put a lot of like sounds effect ear candy on it. And this one basically I make it like a reverse it. And layer together with different sounds. Give it some more like interesting layer. So next step I also put it one of my sample inside to it and this is from my dreamy one shot sample pack. So basically I used a climber and also some texture sounds and I blend a little bit. When you want to start a initial pack you can on.

There is some template that you can use which is grain, tonal, scratch, slice, killed, and rhythmic. And you can also start a initial preset. And I remember I used the template of the grain and then put inside my climber. And add a little bit of the texture ring. And give it something like this. Then I put the randomize on the pitch and I also put it in fixed octave snap. So after that you will have this type of sounds.

And I think sounds so good in this type of music. So I play some notes on it and then sounds like this. So basically if I bounce in place I usually will cut off to make it more like brief and release feeling. But this is a MIDI that you will more easy to understand. So after that I found a very interesting preset which is a lot of random like percussion sounds and then I also like randomly play some notes and one pan left, one pan right and then the second one I slightly to delay a little bit give it more like stereo feeling. >> [snorts] >> It sounds so good and even you don't have to find a lot of difference like percussion or effects to drag and drop to some plug-ins and then to arrange it is just one preset it and I think it's super cool.

Okay, so the next layer I also found another sounds and I feel like it is great for the transition. Something like this. So I put it into the intro and the section one something like that. So the last part I added another melody which is also a preset and then I play some random melody. Just make it very random. This type of music they usually like sounds like random but combines together which give you some interesting feeling.

So the last layer that I also found another preset and and then layer two notes on it. So which is sounds like this. So you can hear just add a lot of like different random stuff on it. And the last layer I found another preset called water. So basically just like the water sounds. Just want to showcase you even you don't have some like water sample you can always just use this plug-ins. All right, so all the sounds from the Grandfather will be sounds like this. >> [music] >> It sounds so good to me.

So the last one I play a chord progressions which is the same with the intro which is also the ambient chord progression MIDI pack the one of the chord. And then I just flame it a little bit. If you don't know how to do it on Logic basically you have to quantize for 1/4 note and then make this flame for a little bit. You can adjust it how much do you want. So just basically you can randomly or you can find out what flame sounds you like.

So which is sounds like this. So the next one I played the chord in a broken chord and added some more like high piano notes on it for some melody and type. >> [music] [music] >> So the last part which is all the nature noise texture elements. So basically you can use any type of this like ambient or field recording and usually there is a super long recording wave file, right? So I'm just take a long note and cut it out.

So I also added some like vinyl crackle. And then layer another vinyl crackle. And then some of the river sounds. Another more louder river. And also found some nature like wood or leaves sounds. And also found some more like different effects. Just give it some more like interesting stuff. And another like wobby. And some of the layer I panned it to difference left and right give it more stereo feeling. And basically it is something like that.

So to be honest even though this is my very very first botanical music but to be honest I'm really happy with this results and in the process that I creating this demo I feel like is so much fun.
