I'm Kevin Harland. With me tonight, it's Greg Anthony and Clark Kellogg. Alli Leforce will be bringing us updates from the sidelines. So, the opening lineup for the Heat. They've got Trace Miller. Mitchell is out there with MP.

Then there's Pella Larson. And it's Autobio in at the five down low. Oh, countdown to midnight on our broadcast. Uh-uh. And what a great way to end the year with some NBA action. Greg, I'm so happy to be with you here tonight. >> Yeah. You look back to the start of the calendar year, Kevin, and so much has changed. The league can look so different in such a short time span. And here's SGA following the three-pointer by MP.

Hartinstein with the screen for Gilas Alexander. Fires from 14. That doesn't go either for Gilg Alexander. Miami's gone two of two from three-point range here in the first quarter. And taking a quick look here at the hustle stats for Miami. >> They've not been passive at all on defense early on. challenging shots and it's resulted in a number of blocks. >> And another thing they've done so well is convert fast break opportunities.

Great job trusting their guys and getting those easy ones. >> And here is Gilg Alexander following the three-pointer by MP. >> Yeah, slow start right now. Five straight misses to get this one going. >> And Clark, you hear about the Heat's infamous conditioning test. Some players just can't tolerate it. Kevin, I think it's part of Miami's demanding culture. It's championship culture, if you will. And it's not just a test of conditioning.

That's part of it for sure, but it's a test of will, commitment, and grit. They want players willing to push through the limits. He's a big reason why they have the lead right now. He's made all of his field goal attempts thus far and remains hot from the floor. >> Can they get it? Shots good by Williams. >> Lethal in that area. Williams has the athletic ability and finesse to score in so many ways. >> MP fires from way outside and the Heat another three >> and they are shooting the lights out from distance here early. >> How do you stop this?

I mean it seems like they can't miss. >> And now let's send it over to our courtside reporter Ally Leforce. Well, MP in the last matchup against the Mavericks was tremendous. He ended up with 44 points and hit a bunch of threes. No surprises there. He was locked in all night long. We'll see if that focus carries over into this game, guys. >> Nice work there, Really. Talk about leading by example and it makes your teammates level up. >> You know what most impressed me is the way he just never let up. He was relentless as other guys were fatiguing. And quite a position here for the Heat to be in. What do you guys think? >> Well, the way they've come out tonight, you can tell it's part of their game plan to just pound the glass. >> They sure have. Talk about sending a message. They have set a physical tone. >> Plenty of talent for the Thunder, Greg, but their superstar, unquestionably, Shay Gilis Alexander. >> Yeah, the two-time consecutive leagu's most valuable player.

He has the complete package, and his efficiency for a guard is historically great. >> If you give him an inch of space, he's going to make you pay. MP WAY OUT. GETS ANOTHER ONE FROM DEEP. Another three. I'm not sure I've seen a better three-point shooting night. >> They just keep pouring in. This is a top five alltime single game for three-point shots made. Giannis outside and here's MP for Got it. Another three falls. >> And guys, this is a historic shooting night for him.

Tied for third now. Most threes in a game. >> Ah, the points just keep piling up and the threes keep dropping in. He is redot from beyond the ark. McCain's shot is off. Well, he won't miss many of those. Not when he gets a good look like that. >> Hans Takumbo dishes to MP. >> Good. What a shooting performance. Here's Mitchell. Whistle blows. Basket is good. So, a chance here for a three-point play. >> He relishes his role in this offense, and he's a natural leader, too. >> And a new group in here for the Thunder. Hartinstein, he's checked in for Mara. Chad Homegrren comes in for Kenri Williams. Kase Wallace, he's checked in for Alex Caruso. NSGA subbed in for Jared McCain. >> And they're really in a good position here, thanks in part to the way he's been able to score the basketball.

Here's SGA AND ADABIO SENDS IT BACK. >> OH, great instincts from Bam. Such a high IQ defender. It just seems like the more he touches it, the more the lead grows. >> And teams now looking to get out in early offense, Clark, before their opponents can set their defense. What changed? Well, I think teams understand, players understand, coaches understand that if you can attack before the defense is set, that increases your percentages of getting a high quality shot.

Coaches used to preach patience, but there's a high yield in attacking early, and that's become more of the strategy for just about all players, coaches, and teams. Now, Gilg Alexander still scoreless. Hartinstein with the screen for Wallace and again Oklahoma City no good. Enzo M will bring it up for the Heat. They come into this connects again from distance and it's 60 points again. Can't believe he's done it now three times. >> I mean right three times.

He's now tied for the third most 60point games in a single campaign. And Gilgis Alexander gets it to go. And he had a good look and Gilgus Alexander made it pay off. MP outside. Yet another bucket. He's been absolutely ridiculous in this game. >> You get the sense he just can't miss. >> Hartenstein passes to Wallace. 55 seconds left in the first half of basketball and here's Gilis Alexander outside. Another miss. The drought continues now just one for nine from the floor. >> His lack of offense is certainly not helping.

Tough to overcome that. >> And that one's good. MP. And they're getting their points now almost exclusively from the triple. Four of their last five makes are from beyond the arc. >> It's hard for me to watch this. I mean, the defense practically giving them those shots. Yeah, after a nothing first quarter, he's bounced back nicely. Shot and game clock separated by five. >> MP against Mitchell. MP again. >> A great sign for MP in his career.

The ability to convert in traffic. >> SGA with the ball. A 26-point game for him in the win against Milwaukee. It's stolen by Adabio. Here's MP. Good. That's another bucket. And that's 70. He's unbelievable. And so it's the Miami Heat with a huge lead at the break. Safe to say there's no catching him today. The three-point shooting has come fast and furious to the tune of what has become a big time blowout in progress.

And definitely some explosive guys on this list, but there's plenty of time out there for someone to grab this spot. Maybe Now, let's talk about that first half. What an impressive performance for the Miami Heat this all. And that'll do it for Well, we've got a second half of basketball for you. We think it's going to be pretty good.

A big comeback, though, is needed for this game to be competitive, and it probably has to happen. Quickly, you look at MP in this one. He's been everywhere so far. His barrage from long distance has been a major storyline. >> You know, credit his teammates for serving up the hot hand, giving him every opportunity to let it fly. >> The three ball and the Heat. Another three. He's been incredible tonight, seemingly scoring at will.

Really powering his team forward. >> Wallace kicks to Homegrren. Pass to Williams. Oklahoma City moving it around and Gilis Alexander gets it to go. >> Whatever you can do, I can do better. >> Mono a mono. They're literally going at each other fiercely. Here's Miller from downtown. Traces three is good OFF THE PERFECT PASS FROM MP. >> Three-pointers are killing them at this point and they haven't been able to respond at the other end. >> You know, the only way that's going to turn around defensively is by stopping the outside shot, not getting into a shootout.

They're not going to outshoot out this team. Defensively, you've got to apply more pressure to a shooter of his caliber. Shot from the wing and there's another one for the Heat. >> I really like the start here. Great aggressiveness. Redot to start this half. [screaming] >> Wallace looking for an opening. Homegrren finds Wallace beyond the ark. And again, it's Oklahoma City with a three. >> So hard to challenge these shots.

I mean, especially against the better shooters. >> MP. That's for two. Good. But he hits again >> and he's been dominant here thus far. >> Shouldering the offense. GA really taking it to the opposition. Hartinstein with the screen for Williams. And again, Oklahoma City with the triple. >> They are on fire right now. That's four straight makes. >> And here's MP FOR THREE AGAIN FROM DEEP. And this parade of threes has no end in sight.

He just keeps knocking him down. >> Oh, and that latest triple ties him for second for the most threes in a game. What a monster he's been from deep. And it's SGA missing. The Heat have gotten every shot to drop since halftime. They're five for five from the floor. The three from MP. It's rebounded by Oklahoma City. Looking ahead, they've got the Jazz coming into town for the next game. And that'll be the third of the four straight at home.

Wallace kicks to Williams. And it's Williams again, missing. MP against Wallace. MP no good. And SGA has got the ball here for the Thunder. Williams inside. Defended by Larson. Some tremendous shooting from them. >> Wow. What can you say? >> Wallace outside. >> Wallace drawing the double team. Now here's Homegrren from the arc. Knocks down the three ball. Homegrren's got six in the quarter. >> Boy, they've been terrific from beyond here in the second. >> Exactly what the doctor ordered. Those three-point bombs will erase the deficit quickly if they can keep it up. >> Wallace. The pass to Hartinstein.

And here's Gilg Alexander outside. MP has been leading the charge for Miami. They kept >> and it's time to bring up the State Farm assist of the game. as soon as he and so Miami takes this one by a big margin to come in. Um, felt like we could have done better. What type of business is we talking about? Well, coach, some sharp shooters on both of these rosters. And no surprise, both of these teams like to shoot a lot of threes. >> Yeah, BA, look, defenders are going to need to close out hard on every pass tonight.

You can't get lost or stuck on screens in this one or it's going to cost you three points almost every time. >> So, a look at our starters for the Heat. Pella Larson is out there with Trace Miller. Then it's MP. Then it's Bam Adabio. And it's Mitchell in at the two. >> We talk about MP's confidence a lot there. He showed it pulling up off the dribble and nailing the shot. >> Castle surveying the D. Here's Fox. Miller with a block and that's out of bounds.

He's been hitting threes at a very high level. We haven't seen many better from deep. >> That last triple ties him for fourth most made in a season. >> Yeah, that's his 354th tray of the year, tying him with Steph's 18/19 season. Only Curry and Harden have hit more in a single season. >> Over his career, De'aran Fox has been a high usage rate player, Richard. Well, he has the ball so much and to do that you need to be in great shape.

Fox, oh, this man is in great condition. >> Here's Miller and MILLER >> THROWS it down. >> Well, they're certainly not easing their way into this game. They've played with great energy and intensity. >> Already a double-digit lead. I don't see them slowing down anytime soon. >> Now, here's Castle right now contributing around 10 and a half points a game. Let's go now to the sideline and catch up WITH GOT THE THREE TO GO. >> WELL, this is amazing.

That moves him into fourth place alone on the list of most three-pointers in a season. >> It's been fantastic to witness a year like this does not happen very often. >> The confidence he has, the confidence his coaches have in him. He's in the company of great shooters like Curry and Harden. >> Oh, I didn't think that was going in. MP's got 14. >> Talk about putting a team on your back. He has been dominant this quarter and I don't think they are winning without him. >> Fox the pass to Wanyama unable to get that one. >> Slow going for him this quarter.

The defense putting up a good fight. Chalk up two there. And here in the first quarter, a little over three and a half minutes played. Here's Castle. Fox outside for three. Gets hauled in by the Heat. Adabio's got five rebounds in the game. A deep three from MP. Good. Another from three. >> And his incredible shooting season continues. >> Up the charts he climbs. Now tied for third all time for threes in a season. Absolutely amazing. and he's matched Curry's mark of 357 from 2024.

That was a vintage step season. >> Capitalizing inside with ease. Wimi is just so skilled down in this area. >> And here's MP FROM OUTSIDE. GOT IT. ANOTHER THREE FALLS. >> The threes just don't stop with him. He's been a machine from beyond the ark ever since the start of the season. He continues to shoot his way up the history books and now sits solely by himself for third most made threes in a season. >> All right, I'm just going to say it.

He's 0 for the game. Might be time to stop shooting the ball. >> And again, MIAMI WITH A TRIPLE. 19 seconds left in the opening quarter. >> Here's Fox rebound Miami. >> Fantastic defense giving full effort. We welcome you back to second quarter action. Plenty of basketball left to play, but this one has been one-sided so far. And for the Heat here, they've been putting on a show. >> Well, they've been playing bully ball, fighting to grab every miss shot. >> It was obviously a point of emphasis coming in. They felt like they could impose their will. Oh, and they have. >> You know, they say for some coaching in the NBA is addictive.

It can be hard to walk away from that excitement, Stan. >> Oh, it sure can, BA. And I'm sure the players feel much the same. At some point you get too old and too worn out, but certainly some hold out longer than others. >> Richard, the strength of the Spurs offense in particular is their percentage on two-point attempts. >> Yeah, the length of Wimi around the cup and then downhill drivers in the back court. They put tremendous pressure on the rim. >> Nice looking three ball by MP proving he can hurt you from downtown. >> Castle for three.

San Antonio with a rebound. This their first chance to take a look at the Heat this season. >> Well, they didn't have any trouble with this team a season ago. Two game sweep. >> These guys are looking forward to this year now. Putting last season behind them. Pass to Cornette. [cheering] >> Six to shoot. to the inside. Here's Champini. Miller with a block. >> Those are the turnovers that have coaches pulling their hair out.

Why do you think I'm bald? >> And San Antonio making a change here. Fox has checked in and a switch here also for Miami. Ana Kmpo's checked in. Miami has gone two of three from beyond the arc so far in the second. >> I don't love the shot selection there to be honest. Oh, he has good range. obviously, but could have gotten something better most likely. >> Now here's Fox. No points yet. >> And here's Vel. That shot missing.

Oh, good D by Miller from deep. MP Vel with the rebound. The Spurs have gotten only one of four shots to go in. >> Vel a screen on Miller. Fox against Miller. Step back jumper. It's hauled in by the Heat. Miller's got rebound number five here tonight. And here's MP from outside. The shot no good. And the Spurs shooting a tough 22% from the field so far. Vel outside. Fox outside. Activ San Antonio moving the ball around.

San Antonio again can't hit. >> He's just basically a body out there right now. Nothing else. The team is struggling and he hasn't been able to help them out at all. >> He buries it from three. MP testing out the extent of his his range. >> They are desperate for a bucket here. >> Yeah, they're really struggling to find anything. Vel left side. Miller with a block and HERE THEY COME. THE PULL UP and it's good. Off the back of the rim and in.

MP's got 41. And breaking down some numbers here. The hustle stats for the Heat. When you pile up the blocks earlier in games, it really can affect the other team. They lose confidence offensively. Well, we've also seen them consistently scoring on the break, hustling in transition to get easy buckets and wear down the defense. >> Kmpo the pass to Wiggins from deep. MP and again Miami with a triple. One minute left in the first half of this one.

Back to Fox over MP. Not enough on that one as it misses. >> He's been held scoreless tonight. Really just unable to make any sort of impact. He's looked practically unstoppable this quarter. The defense. Yeah. Well, they haven't had many answers for him. Out to Fox. A shot to stop the run. Fox can't get that one to fall. Miami has gone 50% from the perimeter in this second, shooting four of eight. And out of bio slams it in. >> For most of the evening, they've done everything right at both ends of the floor.

Yeah, it's great to see a complete team effort. That's what they've shown us tonight. >> Now, here's Cornet. No points so far. >> Vel finds Castle. Six on the shot clock. >> Here's Fox. Ottabbio grabs the board. Ottabio's got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he's getting it done. MP way outside. Oh, he airballs the triple. That one was way off. Fox feeling it out a bit. Rebound Miami. Obio's got doubledigit rebounds now in the game. >> That's not how you want to come out of the break. Three straight misses. They need to settle in quick. Well, there's the versatility Bam brings to the table. Defending, scoring in the post, facilitating.

He's a complete package. >> Now, here's Wimanyama. And you look at the numbers. Currently around 22 and 1/2 points a game. >> Smart move using a little up fake there to get the space he needed to take it hard to the hoop. >> Man, that's a thing of beauty when it works. Here's MP. Nonstop scoring machine right here. And the three-pointer goes. And we're just about two minutes into the final half of play now. They are desperate to see the ball go through the hoop here. >> Yeah, that's going to require patience and focus.

You can't force your way out of a rut. >> Coming out of half, they're one for five from the field. Whatever they discussed is not working. >> MP connects from outside. Perfect pass by Trace >> as they set their sights on locking up the win. He has to do everything in his power to make this happen. >> Now here's Wimyama. He's got six. Banked it in off the glass. Wimyama's got four points this quarter. >> It's just one of those nights where he's been very good, but his team is losing.

And that's just an odd feeling. >> You know, through all the evolutions this league has seen, is there a constant when it comes to building a title contender, RJ? Every championship team has had and needs two elite offensive creators because those defenses can tighten up quickly. And that one drops. Fox has got his second bucket on the night. The Heat have gone six of seven and appearing confident in this half. MP way outside.

And again, it's Miami from deep. I mean, no comment, but this is just unreal. >> Now, Wimyama, eight points for him. Pass to Fox. There's the triple. Miller pulls it in. And as we conclude the third, pretty much a blowout here. It's been a one-sided affair. Heat out in front, running away with this one. San Antonio needs to get off a shot. Champini San Antonio again missing the heat on offense here in the fourth quarter. Their defense has been very strong. No baskets allowed. And the outcome of this one wasn't really in question. An impressive win in enemy territory. Uh, no. It's not really extra motivation, but whenever we get to test ourselves against the best players, brings out the best in us. >> I like those matching hoodies. Are those from your Man, I can't believe they gave this clown a TV show. >> And it's just something about the rising stars challenge. It it gives each of these young players a chance to really do something special on a national stage, maybe for the first time in their professional career.

Here are the starters for the sophomores. Harper is out there with Jeremiah Fears. Then there's Colin Murray Bole. Then it's Canipple. And it's Flag in at the three slot. And here is Harper following the three-pointer by MP. And it's Flag missing. You brought up the big stage these young guys are on tonight. For so many of the fans, Greg, who are still, you know, just getting familiar with these players, it really is a great welcome to the NBA moment.

It >> it really is a showcase and for each player, whether they have great moments or not, just being chosen to participate is a huge honor and it says a lot about where they stand amongst their peers. >> And the sophomores with possession here following the three-pointer by MP Murray Boils with the bucket. Well, let's say the defense being played here tonight might be a bit on the soft side from both teams. >> Well, I know you're not surprised, are you?

I mean, fast and loose is the way this game should be played. >> Good on the three-point shot. >> You know, I know his NBA career is is just starting out, but he has been logging some veteran minutes in the regular season. >> Well, in his short time in the league, Greg, he's earned the full confidence of the coaching staff. They're not afraid to use him in any situation. And this game literally has been wide open. As wide open as it gets. >> OH, WHAT [screaming] A SHOT. >> OH, HE BROUGHT THE rain from deep. >> I love this event so much because it combines the worldass ability of these players with the freedom of the playground. >> Yep.

It's the greatest and certainly the most fun pickup game these players will ever play in. And guys, since this game started back in '94, this has been a perfect warm-up for the All-Star game. I mean, it has all the fun and excitement of the big game with the added element of introducing some of the great young stars to the league's fans. Flag outside the three. Miller grabs the miss. The rookies on offense, they're on a 14 to4 run right now.

This really has become one of the signature events of All-Star Week. I know you love it, Greg. It gets everyone into the mood for all the festivities that are soon to come. >> Yeah, it does. I mean, it's such a great way for these young players to show off some of the fancy moves that they wouldn't even dare to attempt in a regular season game. >> Six on the shot clock and here's Harper from the ark and it's Trace Miller with the rebound.

MP way outside. MP drills the deep ball and a great assist by Trace. >> And that's getting it done from deep. That's what the All-Star game gives you, the freedom to show your full range. >> You know, taking that shot in a regular season game might get you a spot on the bench, but here it gets you a standing O. >> The sophomores making some changes. Ryan Caulk Runner's checked in for Fears. And it's Edgecomb in for Harper.

Canipple surveying the defense out to the right wing. Back to Flag. It's the three-point bomb. >> I like Flag from beyond the arc. I'd like to see him shoot it with volume from out there. >> MP from deep. Just a ton of energy out there on the floor tonight. >> Yeah, you know, like we see every year, these young guys are super excited to be playing in this game and that excitement comes out onto the court. >> And transition threes are fine, but give me something at the rim. >> Yeah, if you're playing the percentages, you won't find a better look than that one. and and not as many turnovers as as we often get in this game.

So, good to see both teams taking care of the ball. >> Yeah, it really is. I mean, surprisingly very well controlled for the most part. Sometimes things get a little wild out there, but not so here >> in most of the critical areas. They've been dominant. >> Got to credit the game plan they had coming into this one. I mean, the coaching staff hit all the right note. >> And you know, the officials not giving their whistles much of a workout here tonight. very few fouls being called >> and most of that Greg is because they're not playing full force defense.

I mean, you're never going to see as much contact around the bucket in this game as you would ordinarily. >> And so Mike Anori decides to call timeout. Coach is going to talk some things over with the team. Might be seeing something to adjust. And the rookies with some changes. Wilson, he's checked in for Mara and Peterson subbed in for Waggler. I thought it was the difference. >> Shots good by Thompson. >> Well, that sometimes is a tough area for Thompson, but he manages to get off a smooth shot >> inside.
