I published a study that kind of validates why bedtime procrastination is so important to people. The other research at the time assumed that bedtime procrastination was bad, but it hadn't actually asked people about it. Like, why do you do it? So, we just asked people in a way that followed a rigorous procedure, blah blah blah. And our results were some really valid reasons about why people delay their bedtime that sleep advice typically ignores. We need me time. What this transcript is
Every word below is the caption track YouTube publishes for this video, pulled from the video itself and reproduced unchanged. It is not Prepublish's writing, not a summary, and not a re-transcription: it is the video's own published captions. English captions, generated automatically by YouTube, in the video’s original language. Source: the video on YouTube. A channel that would rather this page did not exist can ask for its removal through the contact page, and it is removed.
No Script X-ray for this video: YouTube shows a Most replayed graph only once a video has enough views.

We need me time. We give most of our hours to work or kids and other commitments, and we need to take time for ourselves. We need that autonomy. We need to decompress. There's this need to regulate the stress of the day, and that often happens before bed. And it's about identity, too. So, we have these niche interests that kind of exist outside of our 9-to-5 that are important for our sense of self. This is kind of why people watch YouTube videos at midnight.
But, what we found that there are these psychological needs that kind of go unmet during our 9-to-5, and that can affect our sleep. This wasn't our intention when we were designing the study. We were just curious.
The words are the caption track's own and nothing is reworded or re-transcribed. Paragraph breaks are placed between sentences so the text reads as prose.
