Strange Dragon Ball Characters in Video Games transcript

Dragon Ball can be a pretty weird series I mean we got giant monkeys plant people and pink monsters that turn things into candy but what's even weirder than that is the video games there's a ton of bizarre and forgotten Dragon Ball characters exclusive to video games which rarely if ever venture outside of them from things like a new Fusion between Goku and Vegeta to a billion different types of Cyberman there's a ton much more than I can cover here so I may do a part two first let's start with one of my favorite handheld games shin Budokai another the road this game was basically one huge what if story about trunks's version of The Bu Saga but the character I want to highlight is this version of Super Saiyan 2 future Gohan just like the original story he died against the Androids and resides in otherw world with Goku and even Bardock achieving Super Saiyan 2 by training with them in the game present Gohan is brought into the future alongside the other Z fighters to help and he tries to pull out the sea sort but he realizes that he can't do it you have to be the chosen one of that timeline to pull it out which means future Gohan they visit him in another world reuniting with future Goku and Bardock but this future Gohan is quite a sad individual he is constantly having imaginary battles against the Androids who aren't even there he becomes violent and loses himself it's some kind of PTSD and it's really tragic thankfully future Goku is able to fight him and calm him down future Gohan then goes to train in the kaioshin realm pulling out the sees sort that's when everyone yells at present Gohan when he breaks it on purpose but in reality he was trying to get out the old Kai who then helps future Gohan unlock his ultimate form the old Kai gives up his life for him so he can defend the universe against Buu eventually Kid Buu is defeated with a Goku family Kamehameha from Goku Gohan Goten future Bardock and future Gohan and so the universe is saved but of course this isn't the only version of future Gohan there's also one from Heroes which unlocks Super Saiyan 3 and even a fusion between himself and Future Trunks named Future gohans that future Gohan is just one example of how much flexibility video games have when it comes to Dragon Ball they can do pretty much whatever they want future Gohan with PTSD and ultimate sure this is something we would likely never get in the actual story so it's cool that other writers get a swing at these characters and if you're anything like me you grew up playing things like Raging Blast and one of the main selling points of that game was the extra characters Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Broly Although our introduction to them in the West Was the Raging Blast games they actually originate from Dragon Battlers the predator essor to Dragon Ball Heroes according to R and blast Broly obtained the Legendary Super Saiyan 3 form when he survived getting blasted into the sun in second coming in his original appearance his hair is golden but in R and bless 2 it switched to be a more legendary green color there's also Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta who actually has many versions like Majin and GT one of my personal favorites is Super Saiyan 3 Scout Vegeta from Dragon Ball Heroes world mission who arrives on Earth alongside Napa rits and Turles Vegeta has no idea what this form is thinking that it's just a legendary Super Saiyan but beat a notes defeat him alongside Goku and the others one of the strangest game original characters is soba he was exclusively made for Dragon Ball Z Sagas for the PS2 made as a boss to fill the gap of Goku's training on yardrat soba is a yram with a power level of 140 million making him stronger than this game's Frieza who has a power level of 120 million actually it seems that developers of saga's God frieza's power level wrong it's supposed to be 120 million but they put it as a measly 12 million with soba's being 14 million soba is accompanied by a shark-like monster named Yaki and together they challenge Goku as he slowly learns to understand Super Saiyan speaking of weird characters with little to no information let me take you back to one of the first Dragon Ball games Shenron naso for the famicom this game had Goku face off against the rabbit gang once more rabbit boss sends out the number one headman in the universe C alien to go after Goku this this strange alien was designed by Toriyama himself as a counterpart to Krillin but if he is the number one Hitman in the universe that means that he's really more of a counterpart to hit now that's a battle I want to see strongest Hitman in history versus the strongest Hitman of today although in the actual game he's actually not that powerful Goku also faces off against the strange MB Army who seem to be after the Dragon Balls the MB Army General and the Ashera robot were also designed by Toriyama and serve as one of the last few bosses for the game then there's full armor Mecha Frieza a way more radical version of Mecha Frieza from the original series he wears a giant bazooka on his back he has grenades around his waist and has a tail made of landmines it's really kind of insane though many rumors say that he was designed by Toriyama this isn't actually true he was just an exclusive character for the HomePort version of Super Dragon Ball Z one of my favorite Dragon Ball games of all time is Dragon Ball fusions that game's characters could be a video all on its own in fact maybe I'll make one about every Fusion ever but the characters I want to mention here are the protagonist and his rival though you can customize the main character in any way you want from Ayan Majin even a Kai the Canon quote unquote version of him is Tekk an Earthling him and his rival a saian named pinich used the Dragon Balls to wish for the greatest Martial Arts Tournament and so the two gather their opposite teams Tekk teams up with the likes of Goten trunks Kid Goku and Pan while pinich teams up with Frieza Cell and a few other NPCs the game also introduces the metam moand which allow anyone to fuse together the two teams even learn the five-way fusion from the ginu force and so Ultra pinage is born he is so strong that he's actually able to kill Super Saiyan blue Goku but this is undone by whis he also transforms into a mutated ozaru to fight tekk's Ultra fusion and in the end the good guys win the game as the name suggests has a bunch of what fusions but I wanted to point at one in specific a brand new Fusion between Goku and Vegeta ex Gogeta this is a version of Gogeta born through the use of meno bands and I absolutely love this design it's strange that he doesn't get that much attention I mean he is a new Goku and Vegeta fusion they use it to fight pin Anda in the postgame when they realize their Super Saiyan blue power just isn't enough his clothes are less of a literal combination of their outfits and more of a new interpretation of what each of them represents now let me take a moment to mention all the different ozaro we've only seen in games the most famous ones are probably from Budokai ten kaii 3 King Vegeta RIT Napa and Turles though I personally really like the Dragon Ball online version of ozaru Napa whose design is just ridiculous in that game the time Breakers also might control other ozaru as enemies there was also going to be this special white ozaru controlled by the time Breakers he was going to wear a backpack full of Ky that continue to make him stronger and stronger kind of reminds me of something like Bame from Batman sadly he went unused meanwhile in Heroes we also get timebreaker ozaru Bardock legendary ozaru Broly ozaro Gogeta and even golden ozaru and like I mentioned before Ultra pinage also has ozaru plan to eradicate the saans is probably the most well-known of these obscure games with weird characters and it makes sense since there's four versions of it the original famicom game the OVA game guide the plaia game and the Raging blaz remake of the game guide it features Dr raichi a tough of old who's created the death strong G which takes away the power of our heroes and will eventually kill all of Earth Our Heroes Have to visit four different locations on Earth to destroy set machines while fighting right mutants kingar ARB gudy scud budo pinkar jiku and kawazu the last death Strong gas is been protected by the ghost clones of Turles slug Frieza and cooler there's also this really weird thing in the original animated version where none of the heroes can actually hurt the ghost Warriors until King Kai just points out that they arre and then they defeat them at least in the remake Bulma helps Our Heroes by inventing something that will help them actually hit the ghost Warriors the team then heads into space towards the dark planet to stop raichi on the dark planet the heroes have to fight God guon Dr reich's robotic guard and I really like these designs it's like an evolution of the pirate robot I'd like to see them return in other games reich's Ultimate Weapon is haak he also has a few forms like Giant and super hotak from the plaia game there's also many minor characters the heroes can meet along the way like a giant statue that gives you a vacuum cleaner or a fairy that helps Goku destroy a giant hach but most of these are fairly minor Android 21 is the most famous game specific character so much so that she's been canonized to some degree thanks to Dragon Ball super superhero she was designed by a koriyama and once was a brilliant scientist named aomi the wife of Dr jro they had two children together gvo the model for Android 16 and a second child whom we do not know the name of but who was the parent of Dr HED she was turned into an Android by jro's supercomputer with the cells of many fighters added to her most importantly Majin Buu as her true form is very similar to to him and because of his cells she was cursed with unquenchable Hunger when she was released she had very little memories except for a vague sense that she had a son which led her to repair Android 16 her hunger then made her create clones of the Z Fighters so she could eat them but eventually that wasn't enough the story of Dragon Ball Fighters is a little strange it involves some kind of Link system with the player and it's really weird either way she continuously tries to fight her hunger with the help of 18 17 and 16 but it does get the better of her absorbing a revived cell and spting herself from her evil half 16 sacrifices himself for her sake but evil 21 escapes to jro's lab to try and activate a wave machine that will weaken and paralyze everyone but the Z Fighters work together alongside the good 21 to stop her Goku destroys her with a Spirit Bomb at the kosian realm with the good Android 21 having to push her in and killing them both in the process though Goku does ask King yemma for her to be reborn as a good person just like Buu she also appears in Kakarot as a small Cameo speaking of which Dragon Ball Z Kakarot gave us a lot of new information on characters and even one specifically designed by Toriyama her name is bonu an ex-member of the ginu force she belongs to the same race as ja from planet Branch her name actually means breast milk which matches alongside the other ginu Force members as all of them are named after dairy products she was the first member to join the ginu force after Ginyu himself but unlike her comrades she was way too serious of a person and didn't like posing so she left in order to be a regular Soldier her data was left behind in the pot Goku used to escape Namek and so she was recreated as a virtual fighter for Goku to train with I also want to shout out my boy Chef Malone from Kakarot he's not really important nor designed by Toriyama or anything but he just keeps showing up in nearly every Arc just wanting to cook delicious food despite being on the Frieza Force I really like him that's my guy right there then there's Dragon Ball VR versus a fighting arcade game that was supposed to simulate a VR experience by placing you behind the character there was also a version of it with actual motion controls the game's main villain was Majin ooto designed by Toriyama he can transform into any fighter though his ultimate form is a giant grotesque version of himself depending on who you beat him with you'll get a different ending like Future Trunks wishing to revive future Vegeta ooto has also been recently reused for the final Arc of Dragon Ball Heroes the demon Invader Saga where he is once again the main villain he absorbs King Kai and lures the other Heroes into his Planet before attacking them he continues to absorb dozens of people like baby kibo shin and even all of the namekians on Planet Namek he gives the heroes a key to enter his castle and gives them a chance to rescue their friends they go through a bunch of different trials and fights but ooto is ultimately defeated by Ultra Instinct Goku with a silver dragon fist I also want to talk about Dragon Ball online one of my favorite Dragon Ball games it was a Korean MMO RPG released in 2010 and closed in 2013 it had a bunch of game original characters and I have a video explaining a lot of the lore behind it for for example Gohan publishes a book about key control which leads to an explosion in martial arts this makes Tian and Krillin start their own Crane and turtle schools as roshi passes down the torch to them Goten and Trunks start their own sword fighting schools as well the game takes place hundreds of years into the future so a lot of our heroes are gone replaced with a whole new set of Heroes and enemies like the red pants Army two of my favorite characters from this game actually never appeared in it as it was cancelled before they could be they are gav and hurot Fanboys of Vegeta and Goku Who cosplay them they're specifically designed to be overe excited Western fans according to the designer daim Miki in an illustration he made for them he also stated that gavita trains at 1.02 times Earth's gravity and hurot has the kanji for nose on his back going on with Dragon Ball online before Cell Max there was cell X he's actually a version of regular cell who was saved by Mir an TOA the time Breakers who seek to cause chaos in the Dragon Ball timelines he was experimented on and modified into this monst as being Captain bacterion a villain who works for TOA was tested with collecting energy for Cel X Captain bacterion is a pirate who seems to be a descendant of the real bacterion from the original Dragon Ball Manga Cel X is kept captive on papaya Island where the World Tournament is held but the giant bug escapes and hides out in a cave giving birth to many different bug-like beings they look like other forms of cell like cell Juniors imperfect cell Etc they collect energy for him and attack the player until you reach cell X himself and defeat him this form of cell was is eventually reused in Dragon Ball Heroes but instead of being experimented on he's a powered up version of the original cell who had a demon dragon ball stuck to his chest if you want to learn more about the story of Dragon Ball online I'll link my video about it here the last one I want to talk about is one of the most insane ones extreme Bonin had a story mode that took place after GT with a hypothetical post GT Goku who is all grown up what's funny is that no GT characters are actually playable in the game they're all assist characters so they just make this overly complicated story mode that makes little sense turns out the shadow dragons have respawned since the energy remained in the dragon balls with Omega Shenron mixing up time and space so Shin asks Goku to find the Black Star Dragon Balls to lock away the negative energy this hypothetical GT Goku has no access to Super Saiyan 4 and goes through the world tracking down the dragon balls from narobi the World Tournament he even has a fight against Super 17 and that red ribbon Army of old freeing 17 from Hell fighter 17 Future Trunks also returns at one point and Goku then gets a new spaceship that takes him to Namek within a day and finds two black star dragon balls there but King Kai warns him that Frieza is back and stronger than ever before and that he should ask Guru about the legendary Saiyan Guru reveals to Goku that the legendary Saiyan is the Super Saiyan God though he doesn't know much else about it Goku defeats Frieza and Retreats the black star dragon balls with Vegeta's help on Earth cell announces the second Cell games and teams up with Android 16 but 16 Rebels and goes off to live in nature Piccolo also gets taken over by Bob and Goku fights him knocking some sense into him before beating Cell and getting his Dragon Ball also since GT Goten and Trunks aren't actually in the game when they fuse and team up with Goku they just turn into kids it probably has something to do with the negative energy but it's not really explained Goku goes off to find Buu who has the last Black Star Dragon Ball then Bob takes over Buu and Vegeta Goku defeats them both teleporting to the kaioshin realm as shin has found out more about the legendary Saiyan while they wait for kibito to interpret the information the old Kai makes a copy of Goku with his potential Unleashed and the two fight Goku then goes to Earth to stop Kid Buu and then he fights the various movie villains like Janemba Willow Bojack and more but once again none of them are playable so they team up with the likes of Frieza Cell Etc you fight them instead Goku Vegeta Gohan Goten Trunks and Future Trunks do the god ritual on Goku beerus and Weis then appear wanting to fight the Super Saiyan God Goku says this power is greater than anything he's ever experienced before which is quite a statement from someone who's been Super Saiyan for Gogeta Broly appears with Turles and Bardock but Goku's power slowly Fates away while fighting Broly Bardock then has a strange reunion with Goku and fights him to bring back the power of the Super Saiyan God brly says that he'll only be a real Saiyan once he kills his own father I love that line meanwhile Omega Shenron declares his plan is going well though Nova Shenron disapproves of his approach but Omega summons huigan from tapon and since Omega isn't actually playable he teams up with Broly once Broly is defeated beer teams up with a mega Shenron to fight the Super Saiyan God and ultimately Goku's power seals away the negative energy and beerus is satisfied this is one of the most bizarre versions of Goku it's stuck in such a strange period of time where they didn't have enough content from this new era of Dragon Ball Beyond Battle of Gods to make a proper story so they just had to rely on this weird mix of GT Z and Battle of Gods resurrection of f had been recently released so despite the fact that blue is in the game Goku never uses it placing this after GT just makes it weird and confusing there's weird little things like Goten and Trunks randomly being turned into kids there's no GT Goten and Trunks in the game so might as well turn them into kids I don't know why they made all the important characters be the ones you can't actually play as it's a funny little curiosity but hey I hope you guys enjoyed this weird look back at some of the often forgotten video game characters from Dragon Ball I know there is a lot more I barely really touched online and heroes but those have a plethora of things to talk about but I am planning on doing a complete story recapping the entirety of Dragon Ball Heroes and Dragon Ball Legends for those shallot fans out there but if you'd like me to make another part
