um this is an English grammar lesson and we will be talking about adjectives but before we start to talk about adjectives let's remind ourselves about three of the classes or groups of words nouns adjectives verbs [Music] nouns are naming words adjectives are describing words verbs are doing words [Music] when we learn how to use nouns adjectives and verbs together in a sentence we become better speakers and better writers so for this lesson your learning objective or what you should know by the end of the lesson with a little practice of course the learning objective is to to identify adjective in a sentence identify what does that word mean identify here means to know which one is correct okay so your learning objective for this lesson is to identify an adjective in a sentence adjectives with Adam adjective hello [Music] adjective is a describing word Adam loves to describe things in lots of detail and make writing even more exciting so an adjective is a describing word to describe how something looks we could describe how something sounds it could describe how something feels we could describe how something tastes or smells so there was a bee in the bathroom [Music] there was a bee in the bathroom [Music] now if we wanted to make this sentence more exciting and more interesting for the reader we could add some describing words so we could change the sentence from being there was a bee in the bathroom we could add two adjectives to make it there was a huge hairy be in the bathroom [Music] so you see we added two adjectives to describing words huge and hairy so the sentence went from being there was a bee in the bathroom learn more interesting sentence there was a huge hairy bee in the bathroom [Music] let's try this together here is another sentence let's read this one together a slug was in my kitchen slug was in my kitchen foreign Okay so that is a very plain sentence a slug was in my kitchen now we could make that sentence more interesting and exciting by adding adjectives describing words [Music] what words could we use to describe the slug look here is a sentence after adding two adjectives describe the slug he added slimy and sticky those are good words to describe as slow because slugs are slimy and they do leave a sticky trail behind them along so the sentence went from being a slug was in my kitchen to a more interesting sentence a slimy sticky slug was in my kitchen [Music] a sentence let's read it I [Music] found a ladybird on a leaf I found a ladybird on a leaf e [Music] I found a ladybird on a leaf look at the picture can you think of any words that we could add to describe the ladybird and maybe even describe the leaf and make this sentence more interesting [Music] how about adding these two adjectives [Music] tiny [Music] and big tiny to describe the ladybird big to describe the leaf now the sentence sounds like this I found a tiny ladybird on a big leaf so we added two adjectives tiny and big okay here is another sentence let's read it a butterfly flew into my hand a butterfly flew into my hand okay that is a nice sentence it's well put together but we could make it even more interesting or exciting by adding some adjectives to describe butterfly how could we describe this butterfly and you think of any adjectives on describing words to describe how the butterfly looks what color what are the colors of the butterfly [Music] butterfly flew into my hand how about [Music] Lou and white butterfly flew into my hand a blue and white butterfly flew into my hand so we added two adjectives it makes it more interesting for the reader because we are giving the reader more details [Music] okay the worms dog through the soil the worms dug through the soil [Music] how about some adjectives to describe the worms Wiggly is a good describing word to describe the worms can you think of any other words to describe the worms they maybe their color pink so we added Wiggly and pink now the sentence sounds like this the wiggly pink worms dug through the soil [Music] magnificent tiger so let's try our best to think of some words to describe how this tiger looks [Music] egg stripy [Music] furry okay so those are words to describe how the tiger looks you think of anything else about a tiger if he was telling someone about a tiger what sort of words could you use to tell someone about the tiger Tiger's fast or slow so that's describing the tiego in more detail tigers are wild tigers are dangerous so those are some words or adjectives you could use to describe a tiger big stripy furry fast wild dangerous [Music] here is a gorilla what words could we use or adjectives could we use to describe the gorilla big black hairy strong heavy powerful big black hairy strong powerful and heavy those are adjectives we could use to describe a gorilla can you think of any other words you could use to describe a gorilla [Music] here is a fruit salad what words can we use to describe the fruit salad what does it look like it looks very colorful very tasty [Music] delicious [Music] fresh [Music] fruit salad is usually cold course a fruit salad is fruity so those are describing words you could use to describe the fruit salad adjectives to describe a fruit salad hooray this looks like fun what words could we what have to describe the jet ski ride have you ever been on a jet ski before how did it feel fun is a describing word exciting fast bumpy splashy [Music] maybe you could use noisy because the engine makes a loud noise doesn't it so those are words you could use to describe a jet ski Ride FUN exciting fast bumpy splashy noisy adjectives [Music] have a look at this sentence the little man carries red apple the little man carries red apples there are two words here which are adjectives one of them is describing the man and one of them is describing the apples which two words are the adjectives [Music] little describing the man and red is describing the apples so little and red are the adjectives [Music] the little man carries the red apples how about this sentence a gray cat runs to the shop [Music] gray cat runs to the shop I can see one adjective here that is describing the cats which word is describing the cat [Music] Rey is telling you he's describing the color of the cancer a gray cats runs to the shop [Music] Jane fell in the wet mud so there is an adjective in this sentence and it is describing the mud which word is describing the mud wet is the adjective in this sentence [Music] here is another sentence Jack and Bob walk to the big school Jack and Bob walk to the big school which word is describing the school which word is the adjective foreign Jack and Bob walk to the big school big is the adjective in this sentence here is an activity sheet if you would like to complete the sheets perhaps you could screenshot it and print it or you could even write down the sentences now you will see you have two choices at the end of each sentence Circle the correct adjective which describes the object or person or place for example number one it says here the tree has green or blue so you will Circle green is the correct adjective in
