Starting with a little explanation of exactly what this is. The new Ford Bronco. We still call it new. It's actually been out for more than 5 years now, but it's still new and cool, and it's the return of the Bronco to Ford's lineup after many years away. When it came back, it was a rough and tumble off-roader intended to rival the Jeep Wrangler, the Toyota 4Runner, but most Bronco trims are pretty rough and tumble.

Not especially comfort focused, not very luxurious, not particularly upscale or refined. This, the Bronco Filson, is here to change that. So, let's start by talking about what exactly Filson is, Bronco Filson. It seems like kind of an unusual name. Well, turns out Filson is kind of an upscale manufacturer of adventure stuff, like mainly adventure clothing for kind of the mountain man with a budget, but also adventure accessories like high-end bags and other luxury goods, kind of with more of an outdoorsman adventure tilt.

But again, high-end stuff. As an example, Filson is celebrating their partnership with the Ford Bronco by selling a Ford Bronco Filson jacket, which costs $450. And I went on their website the other day and the very cheapest backpacks they were offering started around $200. So, Filson, kind of a high-end outdoorsy thing, and that ties perfectly into the luxury Bronco since it's kind of a high-end outdoorsy thing. And of course, Filson is an American manufacturer, American based, so is Ford, so that makes even more sense to join together, much like Ford did with Eddie Bauer 25 years ago with the Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer and other models.

So, what makes the Bronco Filson luxury? Well, there are quite a few premium upgrades over a standard Bronco, but strangely enough, I'm not going to start by talking about any of them. Instead, I want to discuss the powertrain because it's also upgraded in a pretty cool way. So, if you buy a Ford Bronco today, your choices for powertrains are a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 with about 330 horsepower.

That's what basically every single Bronco has under the hood, with the exception of the Bronco Raptor, which is the high-performance off-road muscly version that has a larger turbo V6 with 420 horsepower, pretty meaty. But, it's so aggressive and wide and huge and in-your-face that a lot of people just want the powertrain without getting all the Raptor-ness. And interestingly, the Filson offers that. This doesn't have the standard Bronco engines, but instead it's the BroncoRaptor's powertrain.

And the Filson is the only way you can get a Bronco with the Raptor engine outside of the Raptor itself. Now, in the BroncoRaptor, the powertrain makes 420 horsepower like I said. In this car, it is widely assumed that the engine will be detuned. It won't make quite that much power. But, Ford is still says to expect a significant acceleration boost over a standard Bronco even if this powertrain comes in at maybe 380, 390, 400 horsepower, something like that.

It's still a pretty big upgrade. Now, unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to drive it quite yet and find out. This BroncoFilson is here for show purposes only. It's not ready to go on the road and drive with journalists yet. I guess it's not quite to that point. So, for now, I'm just going to be able to show you the quirks and features and talk about stuff like the powertrain. But, of course, I'm very interested to get behind the wheel and see how it drives in the coming months.

One thing I will say, even with the Raptor's powertrain, it certainly doesn't sound like a BroncoRaptor. You start it and it goes That doesn't happen in the Filson. It's definitely a quieter, subtler, more refined experience from a powertrain perspective. And here, and speaking of refinements, it's the interior where the majority of Bronco Filson refinements are found compared to the standard Bronco. For instance, open up the door, climb inside, take a look at the seats, and you will notice this nice quilted perforated leather going down the center both on the seat bottom and the seat back.

It looks very upscale. You also have surrounding that this very durable cloth material finished in this kind of outdoorsy adventure dark green color that's become pretty popular in the outdoorsy adventure gear world. And it goes along perfectly with this car's sort of Filson outdoor luxury image. And speaking of Filson, you can see imprinted onto the seat back a Bronco Filson is right there reminding you that you have the special luxury one when you're looking at the seats.

But luxury touches go well beyond just the leather. Probably my favorite upgrade over a standard Bronco is the door panel storage compartment. You can see it's right here. It's not just some plastic hole where you can stick stuff. Instead, it looks like a high-quality leather saddlebag. You can see stitched leather that sort of outdoorsy green color reappears, and it just looks pretty cool. It looks like what I'd expect a nice Filson bag would look like, which of course is undoubtedly not by coincidence.

Pretty cool. And then the upgrades don't stop there. Sort of the theme color to this car is this dark copper kind of brass color that you see in a lot of places. Like for instance, the steering wheel trim down here. It adds a little bit more class and refinement to the Bronco. Very nice looking. And same deal on the dashboard. You can see again this sort of metallic copper brass color is all throughout the dashboard.

Looks pretty nice there. You also see it on the drive mode dial mounted here in the center console. Instead of plastic or rubber, you have the copper brass. And on the door sill, you have the same color repeated once again to add a touch of sort of sophistication to this interior. Amazingly, you even see the Bronco horse in the center of the steering wheel this copper brass color, which kind of emphasizes underscores it.

We got the Bronco, the wild crazy thing, but we're giving it a little refinement and class, which is kind of a cool detail. Beyond that, the dark green kind of outdoorsy color also makes a lot of appearances in here. For instance, on the bottom part of the dashboard, you can see it goes basically from the steering column over to the passenger side in this green. The grab handle in the center console is not only finished in this green, but it has some nice quality stitching, and you see this green leather stitching also on the door panel.

You can see upper and lower sections again to add some refinement, some sophistication to this interior that a standard Bronco won't have. Same deal, by the way, on the upper part of the dashboard, although not quite as soft supple leather as what you find elsewhere, presumably because of sun rays smashing it has to be a more durable material, but it still looks nice with nice high quality stitching, too. And also, if you take a look in the center console, you will note a Bronco Filson badge.

Like other Bronco models, it's intended to sort of mimic the grill shape with the headlights as screws, but this particular one says Filson since, of course, that's the model that we're in. Apparently, the First Edition Bronco Filson models will get this badge, but actually serialized with specific numbers to let you know that you're one of the first few Bronco Filson buyers with your special numbered plaque. This one just gets a generic numbered plaque, but still feels upscale.

But, in addition to all these kind of cosmetic upgrades throughout the interior, Ford has said that the Bronco Filson is also quieter and more refined from a driving perspective. Ford says that they've enhanced all of the seals in this car. So, seals around the doors, around the glass to make it quieter and probably added more sound deadening for it says they've enhanced the seals and added other upgrades to improve road noise in the Bronco Filson by 20% compared to a standard Bronco model.

Now, that's a pretty tall order in a vehicle whose roof is designed to come off and whose doors are designed to be removed. In order to make it more luxurious, it's actually not all that easy to do. And so, when they end, I'll be really curious to get behind the wheel of this in the next few months to see if they've succeeded in making this a more refined, quieter vehicle and how they could possibly do that in a Ford Bronco.

It's a pretty impressive task. It's ambitious, but they say they've done it. And by the way, another important upgrade to the Bronco Filson over other Bronco models, this one's got more stuff. There's some features in here that aren't available on any other Bronco. For example, you got a digital rearview mirror. So, you can see right now a pretty standard rearview mirror, but if you flip this switch, it becomes a digital image showing what's behind you, which improves visibility.

Again, adds to the luxury feel. Up front, you get ventilated front seats, which is a nice luxury touch. And in back, you get heated rear seats, which are not offered on other Bronco models. But again, this is the Filson high-quality luxury vehicle and so, it gets more stuff. And on the subject of cool Bronco Filson features, another one is special Bronco Filson bags that are included with these vehicles. You can see them in the cargo area.

They're sort of mounted up on the side. They're perfectly designed to fit into this exact space. You can see they're customized. They say Bronco Filson. They have the same sort of dark green outdoor adventure color. And it only makes sense for the manufactory of accessories and bags to include one of their bags with the car. And speaking of more features on the Bronco Filson compared to other Bronco models, another big one is on the outside where you get power running boards, power retracting.

You walk up to the car and open up the door and you can see the running board automatically extends out so you can step on it and climb in. When you close the door, the running board automatically comes back up towards the body which improves fuel economy and improves ground clearance so your off-road capability is not diminished. Ford offers this feature on a lot of their high-end pickup trucks, but this is the first Bronco to get it.

Then, by the way, speaking of those power running boards, when they're up and in place, that dark copper bronze color is what you see on the outside. Again, sort of the theme color of the Bronco Filson. But anyways, speaking of exterior changes for the Filson over other Bronco models, another obvious one is this rather large badge you can see on the front fender that says Bronco Filson. You have that on both sides just to make it really clear you got the luxury one.

And in case that isn't enough, same deal on the tire cover in back. You get this special kind of custom sort of high-end upscale looking tire cover that says Bronco and of course Filson in their luxurious looking font just to really drive home the point. You also get, as you can see, a full body colored hard top. A lot of other Bronco models have like a plastic hard top unpainted. You don't have that on the Filson. It's all full body colored to again add some class, some sophistication to the Bronco.

And speaking of colors, like I mentioned that bronze dark copper, it appears all throughout the exterior, not just on the running boards. You can see it in back on the Bronco horse once again. Just like on the steering wheel, the rear Bronco horse in back is changed to be in that upscale high-end color. Same deal with the Bronco badging on the front grill where you can see instead of bright white lettering like some Bronco models really showing you what it is, it's sort of a more classy, sophisticated, darker copper bronze.

And you also have that color appearing on the wheels. You can see sort of around the outside of the wheel, that same basic color appears again, sort of the theme color of the car, again tying things together. Now, speaking of the wheels, you will notice looking at the wheels and the tires, they are massive and that's because the Bronco Filson comes standard with the Sasquatch package which of course is the off-roader package for the Bronco that includes absolutely massive all-terrain tires along with a lot of other off-road hardware like lockers and extra drive modes for seriously capable off-road driving.

Now, it's a bit of an interesting thing because the Filson is quite clearly the luxurious, sophisticated Bronco. It's strange to see it coming standard with Sasquatch, but I think the thinking is is for the people who want the off-road capability but also kind of a more buttoned-up experience. Say your Land Rover customers except maybe they want something a little bit more everyman, [clears throat] a little bit more Ford, that's exactly what this car is.

And indeed, Ford has supposedly tuned the suspension in the Filson for a softer ride quality. So in addition to less cabin noise in the interior and more power, more refinement, there's also a better ride plus you get all those extra features and nice materials. It's actually a pretty good compromise. If the Raptor takes things maybe a little too far for most people's taste and the regular Broncos are maybe a little too stripped down, this one gives you pretty good off-road capability, great power, and a lot of cool luxury stuff kind of rolled into one Bronco.

It seems to make sense for a certain type of buyer. And speaking of buying, how much does it cost? The answer is we don't know yet. Ford hasn't said, but the speculation is it'll probably start between 70 and 75,000 dollars. Now, that makes it significantly cheaper than the Bronco Raptor, which starts around 80,000 dollars, but you're typically finding them equipped into the low 90s. This one is already pretty well equipped.

Can't imagine too many extra options, and so I suspect it's going to be sort of a luxury, less powerful, still capable, but maybe not as insane alternative to the Bronco Raptor. As for when it's coming, Ford says the orders are starting here in the next couple of months with delivery starting sometime early in spring 2027. And around then is when I hope to get behind the wheel and actually see what a luxury Bronco is like to drive.

And so, that's the new 2027 Ford Bronco Filson. For some people, this will be the perfect Bronco, combining the off-road capability and the Bronco Raptor's big power with more subtlety and more refinement and more luxury. It's certainly an interesting idea, this car, and I'm interested to get behind the wheel as it goes on sale to find out exactly how it translates to the road, adding more refinement to the Bronco.
