I want to talk about a plague that is spreading widely across the sculpting community of people who are trying to teach you sculpting just so that you can find a job. So they are teaching you all of these industrial tools and softwares and workflows so that you can land a job. I want to tell you why that is a scam, why that is something that you should not do. Also I want to tell you an alternative by any means. This is not something that is objective.
I'm just sharing my opinion with you. I don't want you to listen to me to make a decision based on what I'm saying, but I want you to actually understand what I'm trying to tell you. Think about it and make up your own mind. That is what I want to do in this video. First thing, people are asking you for hundreds, thousands of dollars trying to teach you sculpting. So, just so that you can find a job, okay? They claim to be industry professionals who are working in the industry and they're trying to teach you other people who are being gurus of the market who know the market well enough.
So if if other people are not getting a job, they know how to make the perfect resume. You pay them $250, $500 so that they can make a resume for you. They know how to build uh a portfolio website. So you pay them thousands of dollars for them to build a portfolio website for you. They will coach you onetoone mentor you so that you can get the job, have the right attitude, how to show up for the interview. I want to tell you that all of that is [ __ ] I just want you to think of this scenario yourself.
This is what is happening right now as we speak. big industries, gaming industries, AAA studios are firing people, laying off people who have years and years and years of experience to back them up. The reason being that they don't need those artists anymore without any any any warning, any notices. I just read that LinkedIn recently fired 200 people. LinkedIn, the platform where you find a job, they just fired 200 people.
So, so their own employees are now their own customers. So the people who are telling you that hey bro I'll teach you scuppling and then I will prepare you for the for the for the for for for the industry and then you can apply for a job and I will show you how to get a job. But just just imagine this scenario this is happening right now like I told you major companies are firing people laying them off who have years and years of experience.
Now when there's a job opening in a small studio or in a big studio or whatever there's a job opening for a 3D artist position you a freshy are applying. I don't mean to be harsh to you but I want but I want to tell you the reality. I want you to think about this. You a freshy who are passionate about this who are dedicated learning about sculpting. I understand though you are passionate about this. You want to get a job.
You want to work at your favorite studios and these people they are leeching off of your passion. They want to use your passion against you. They want to suck your blood. So basically they're promising that you will get inside the industry. Just just imagine this. So those people are applying for that job. The layoffs are applying for the job and you you're a fresh right now. you are applying for the job. What chance do you stand amongst those professionals who have 5 10 years of experience who have just recently been laid off?
Honestly, bro, who do you think the company would hire? You, a freshy, or would they hire other people who have years of experience behind them? [clears throat] This is not meant to discourage you, but I want to also give you an alternative that will make most sense. Okay? So, don't don't worry. I will give you that alternative. I want you to notice this that the people who are pushing you, sending this path that they know goes straight to hell, the people who are sending you down that path, I want you to observe.
Look at their socials. Look at what they are doing. Are they working a job or not? Most of them they are not working a job. What they are doing is they are using your desperateness. They are using your passion against you. You want to get a job. They want to take your money and they want to send you down a path that goes straight to hell. They know that it will not lead anywhere. It's a dead end. They themselves, they are not doing a job, but they are only teaching you and they are making money.
They are making a living teaching you how to get a job. Whereas they themselves, they're not doing a job. Doesn't that make sense? How hypocritic is that? I want you to realize that. Look at any content creator, any big name on YouTube, your favorite content creator. What everyone right now is doing, what everyone is doing right now is they are building an audience and then they are selling them something. me myself included, this is what I'm doing, bro.
I I'm building an audience and I'm selling courses on how you can learn sculpting faster because I know how how difficult it was for me. I'm just helping younger me the best way that I can by building courses around it. But no way do I claim that yeah man I'll prepare you for the industry. Recently the the last week I announced that I'm I'm I'm taking applications for my mentorship. There were so many people who applied for the mentorship and they had a job first mindset.
They were like, "Hey, Sak, I want to learn this from you so that I can apply to the industry." And bro, I rejected rejected their applications. And I told them, I told them up up up front that, "Hey, man, this is not something that I teach. This is not something that I'm a professional. This is not a career that I would want for myself. This is not something that I would want for you." Honestly, sculpting is something that I'm super super super passionate about.
Okay? I don't care if AI takes over. I don't care if everything goes to [ __ ] I don't care if the market goes to [ __ ] I don't care if all of us are flipping burgers, bro. If when I flip my burgers, after I'm done flipping my burgers, I know that I'm going to come home and I'm going to sculpt my favorite characters because this is what I am passionate about. If you do not share that same passion, look, this field is not for you.
This is not something that you should pursue because like I told you, the job market is absolutely crazy bollocks right now. The whole market is upside down. It's a frenzy out there. There's there's more artists than there are jobs right now and the B and and the and the and the passage to entry it's getting narrower and narrower and narrower and narrower. This is a bottleneck where we only have a few limited open slots and dozens multiple artists who are trying to apply for the same position including professionals who had been laid off.
So you as a beginner do not stand a chance. The second thing that I want you to realize is that when you do apply for a job, you cannot only say that, hey, I got pretty good characters in Blender. They don't want that. They want you to use industry professional softwares. They want you to use multiple softwares. They want you to know the ins and outs of the workflow so that they can integrate you inside their team. That is what they want.
Why would they train you a freshy versus a person who already knows the ins and out? They are of course going to hire that person. So the job the learning this skill for a job I would never recommend it. Who would I recommend this skill for? A person who who wants this as a highlevel hobby like I want to use this as a hobby. I make a living out of it by by by by selling courses. The second person I would recommend who wants to become a content creator.
Third person who wants to start his own business who's passionate about this or or or another person who just wants to be a content creator or maybe a freelancer as well. This is the people who I would recommend that you go and learn the skill and invest your time and money into this only for these people. Not for anyone who's trying to look for a job. It's just not realistic at the time it is right now. I don't know what the situation will be in the future, but right now it just does not make sense for you to invest so much time, energy, and money just to be met by a dead end by a dead wall.
There's just no point. So my alternative is like I told you a person who has a high level hobby. He doesn't care what the market is. He just wants to make the crypto that he's passionate about. That's the person. The second one who wants to start his own business, wants to be an educator, educator or content creator. And fourth, maybe if someone wants to freelance. Now, why? Let me tell you why. Let me just give you my example.
The reason that I stepped into content creation was because I wanted to create the kind of characters that I wanted. I did not want a boss above telling me, okay, this is the this is the the the art direction that you're heading in and I want you to make characters of this style. I didn't want to I I didn't want any of that. I wanted to create the characters that I wanted. I wanted to practice, learn and mature the skills that I wanted to to pursue.
That is the main reason that I stepped into content creation. I saw and was inspired by creators like Yan Sculps, Danny Mack, Speed Chart. And I thought, "Wow, these guys are living the dream, man." Like they create the content that they want. They create the characters that they want. And then they also use this their passion as a way to to to to support their their lifestyles. That was extremely that was extremely inspiring for me.
That is why I stepped into content creation in the first place. Any creator that you see, go to their go to their YouTube videos, go to the description, [laughter] there will be a link, a link that is selling you something, a course, a mentorship, a program. And honestly, bro, if if that is something that inspires you, that is a good thing. But the the the hypocrisy comes where where they are sending you down a path that they know that that that's not going to work.
They're sending you down to meet a dead end. That is when it gets insensitive. That is when it becomes extremely hypocritic. They are making money doing things that they are not doing themselves. Always, always, always when anyone pitches you any program, bro, just look at what they are doing themselves. Not what they are telling you that they do, but what are they actually doing? observe it, learn from it, just just try to study what they are doing.
Now when I stepped into content creation, bro, my first course was noobs guy to head sculpting course. How to sculpt ahead. That was my first course ever. And I was extremely transparent. I have always been very transparent about my content on on on my channel. I was extremely transparent that hey, this is something that I've been trying to learn for the last eight months. I sucked at this, this, this, this. Now this is the kind of results that I'm getting very consistently and I can teach you how to get the same results much quicker.
That was my claim. That was the course that I made. And at that time when I recorded the head sculpting course I did not know how to sculpt the body well enough. So that is not something that I taught. The cool thing about being a content creator, about being an educator is that you don't need to be an expert at what you do. You just need to be two steps ahead of the person that you're trying to teach. So imagine someone who just learned how to use Photoshop or Blender. he can easily record a Blender beginner course or a Photoshop beginner course and sell it and only help the person who's just two steps behind him achieve those two steps.
You don't have to be a artist to start teaching sculpting. If if sculpting was difficult for you, if any other thing was difficult for you and you found a way to make it work, for example, let's say you you tried figuring out different ways how to sculpt hair for a character, how to sculpt clothes for a character, how to texture your character in a very hand painted way. You you you've been trying to figure those things out.
When you do master it, you make a course around it and then you try to sell it to people by building an audience around it. This way you don't have to learn tons of tools. You don't have to learn tons of skills. You don't have to learn a plateau or a mountain of things. You just have to work on that one specific area that you are extremely passionate about. That is it. And anyone who's interested in how to get hand painted textures on their sculpts would come to you because you are the known expert in that area.
Does that make sense to you? So whereas a job requires you a a big portfolio and all of these softwares and all of these skills, becoming a content creator does not want you to do all of that. You just need to be very specific on the skill that you do. The same thing goes for freelancing. So if if you're a freelancer who ex whose expertise is just hand painted textures, anyone who wants that result will bring their model to you because they don't want you to sculpt.
They know that you are an expert at hand painting. So, they'll bring their scubs to you and be like, "Hey, man. I'd really love your work. You You have an awesome community. You have an awesome audience and I love how you do this. Can you please texture this for me?" And you will start getting commissions. This is how this is what I would recommend anyone who's interested in sculpting or any art form to do. Not not not work their asses off trying to get a job.
A lot of people they tell me, "Hey, Sag, you know, job is more stable." How the [ __ ] is the job stable right now? Because I just told you people with years of experience are being laid off. What chance do you stand my friend? I have been laid off. I have experienced this myself bro. I was the only artist only artist in two studios. I was working as a 3D journalist doing the modeling, rendering, animation, texturing, props, environments, characters, everything.
I was the only artist in the whole company for two of them. So one of them I did left because I just didn't like working with them. It was a very low paying job. So I quit. The other one was was really good paying. They paid me like $3,000 part-time working for them around that. And and what happened Boru that they just vanished in thin air. They couldn't sustain the company. So they just ghosted me and the developers that I was working with.
They just ghosted us. Gone. And my my my my stable income went to [ __ ] I was fortunate enough that on the side I was really passionate about content creation and I was working on this business and now it's at a point where I am very fortunate I'm very grateful that I can do this full-time but if I did not have that backup bro where would have where would have I gone I would have had to start this from scratch the honest reality to to your to fueling your passion bro if if you want to be a content creator if you want to be a freelancer if you want to be an educator or if you want to have your own business is that you need something to survive a job whatever that job may be and this is something that you work on the sides your main job whatever it is even if you don't like it that's your 9 to6 this is your 6 to9 does that make sense for me to be able to work on this to able to grow on this channel to have this business I had to wake up every single morning 5:00 a.m. so that I could record videos before anything else started.
And when I did got a layoff, this allowed me to focus more and more on this. This is the reality of this. The same thing if you want to start your own 3D business, whatever that may be. I I just want to throw some idea towards you and of course you're clever enough that you know what you're passionate about and you you want to pursue it. But just an a rough idea, let me tell you. Let's say you only know how to sculpt heads and now you want to start a business.
You're like, "Okay, what about business should I start?" Bro, make custom keychains. Make custom keychains for couples. So, you make two keychains and then you back them. You get them 3D printed from someone who has a 3D printer. You get them, you paint them. If you don't want to paint them, then ask someone else to paint them for you. And boom, you ship it to the person who just ordered that that custom kitchen for you.
The way that you grow is that you build a Tik Tok account, build a Instagram account, and then you keep posting reals on there. You keep posting, you start, you try to grow your account organically. If you want to pay, you get you get paid ads. learn how to how to utilize paid ads. That is a good skill. That is something that you can invest in instead of spending thousands of dollars trying to trying to trying to get on a path that leads to hell, bro.
Trying to learn how to get into the market. That just does not work. The market will cap you at a certain salary. Your business is something that you own. You can scale this to the moon if you want. So if you're someone who just know how to sculpt the head, build a name for yourself around as being an artist who makes custom head sculpts for couples. Couples only. Don't try to include everyone. Your your grandma, your dog, your pets.
Don't do that. Just just focus on couples. And now whenever a couple want wants to get married and they see your Tik Tok real, oh wow, this guy all all when I open his page, bro, all he does is he makes portraits of of of couples and makes keychains for them. I want to give this to my wife for my anniversary, for my wedding, for whatever. That is a good business. And that is something that you can scale to the moon. If you want, if you're a content creator, if like I mentioned, you want to have that hand painted texture course, bro.
Just keep growing your social media, make content on YouTube teaching other people how you can handcul the the most common hand sculpting mistakes, the the most common hand painting mistakes, the best texture to use for hand painting. This is my free free uh free texture brushes for hand painting textures. Make content around it and anyone who's interested in hand paint learning how to hand paint make hand painted textures they will come to you because you're the known person who can teach the teach it to them.
Now what I wanted to do with this video is I just wanted to open your eyes and I hope that I have done this. Jerry's they'll keep trying to pursue this this vague dream that I want to get a job. I'm just telling I just want to be absolutely upfront with you that to me right now it just does not make sense. And all of the applications that I rejected, I rejected them because I have to sleep at night. I am answerable to God.
If I say, "Yeah, bro. Let me teach you how to get a job. I can bring you to the point where you can get a job, bro." And then that person doesn't get a job, I know I'm sending him straight to hell. How would I be able to sleep at night? I won't be at peace with myself. how will I be answerable to God? Because literally I just scammed that person. So because so many people had been applying and telling me that they were they interested in the job, I just realized whether that more people need to be educated about this.
And I would love for you if you've experienced anything similar, do leave a comment. Let me know, let other people know that yes, this is a scam. People have tried to scam you or any experience that you may have, if if you've been laid off, do share about it. talk about it because other people do deserve to know this. Especially beginner people who are very passionate about this. There are so many people who are extremely passionate about this and using their own passion against them sucking their blood.
It just boils my blood, bro. Seeing these people take advantage of your passion, it just makes me super angry. It just pisses me off, bro. And hence, I just wanted to make this video. So, if this [clears throat] has opened your eyes, please do leave a comment. Please share this with anyone if you agree with this perspective. If if this perspective makes sense to you, do share it around. That that would really help other people out.
Awesome. There's a fist bump. Goodbye. Boom.
