There's a reason some guys look wide in a t-shirt and some guys look narrow, even when they weigh the same, train the same, and eat the same. It's not their bone structure. It's not genetics. There's a reason some guys look wide in a t-shirt and some guys look narrow, even when they weigh the same, train the same, and eat the same. It's not their bone structure. It's not genetics. It's one muscle, and almost nobody is training it correctly. In 30 days, this routine will change the shape of your frame. Not the size, the shape. And that difference is everything. Let's talk about what's actually happening. Your shoulder has three heads.
Front delt, rear delt, side delt. The front delt gets hammered on every pressing movement you've ever done. Bench press, overhead press, push-ups. It is not the problem. The rear delt gets some work from rows and pulls. Not enough, but it's getting something. The side delt, the head that creates width, the head responsible for that 3D rounded Hollywood frame, is getting almost nothing. And here's why. Your traps are stealing the show.
Every time you do a lateral raise with too much weight, too much momentum, or arms too far forward, your [music] traps take over. The side delt barely fires. You finish the set feeling like you worked. You didn't work what matters. This is why your shoulders look like slopes instead of boulders. Your traps are developed. Your side delts are invisible. And the silhouette suffers. Fix this, and something specific happens to your frame.
The V-taper sharpens. The t-shirt fills differently. You look wider standing still without adding a single pound of body weight. This is what gets called the Hollywood frame. The reason certain actors look physically imposing on screen even when they're not the biggest guy in the room. It's the width to waist ratio. And the side delt is the muscle that controls it entirely. Three movements. That's the fix. Movement one.
Leaning lateral raises. Most lateral raises fail because the side delt is already shortened at the top of a standard raise. You get tension at the wrong point in the range. Fix it like this. Hold a fixed structure with your non-working hand. A rack, a door frame, anything stable. Lean away from it. Now raise. The lean pre-stretches the side delt at the bottom of the movement where it's weakest and where growth happens.
The muscle is now under tension through the full range, not just at the top where your traps like to take over. Start light, embarrassingly light. The side delt is a small muscle that's been under-trained your entire life. Respect that and train it properly. Movement two. Pike push-up variations. Bodyweight, no equipment, completely underrated. Get into a downward dog position. Hips high, body forming an inverted V. Now lower your head toward the ground [music] between your hands and press back up.
This loads the shoulder in a vertical pressing pattern that emphasizes the side and rear delt far more than a standard push-up. Elevate your feet on a chair or box to increase the load as you progress. The instability of the bodyweight position also forces [music] the smaller stabilizing muscles of the shoulder to work. These are the muscles that create that dense, three-dimensional look rather than just size from one angle.
Movement three. Face pulls or if you have no cable, band pull-aparts. This is the rear delt and rotator cuff movement that completes the 3D effect. Here's why it matters aesthetically. A developed rear delt creates shoulder depth. Face pulls at eye level, elbows high, pulling to your face and externally rotating at the end. 2 seconds out, controlled. Every rep, band pull aparts if no cable is available. Hold a resistance band at chest height, arms straight, pull apart until the band touches your chest.
Squeeze for 1 second. Release controlled. This also fixes the trap dominance problem directly. Rear delt and lower trap development pulls the shoulder back into its correct position, which by itself makes the shoulder appear wider and more three-dimensional without a single extra pound of muscle. The bonus fix. If your posture is rounded forward, shoulders internally rotated, upper back hunched, your side delts are physically compressed.
[music] They cannot express their full width, no matter how developed they are. Think of it this way. A wide shoulder pointed forward looks narrow from the front. The same shoulder pulled back and down displays its full width. Every face pull you do is also a posture correction. Every band pull apart is reinforcing the position your shoulder needs to be in to actually look as wide as it is. Train the movement. Fix the posture.
Both things happen simultaneously. The 30-day routine. Tack this onto the end of any existing workout. 10 to 15 minutes maximum. Leaning lateral raises, three sets of 15 each side. Slow and controlled, no momentum. Pike push-up variations, three sets to near failure. Feet elevated by week two, face pulls or band pull aparts, three sets of 20, elbows high, full external rotation every training day, 30 days straight. Here's what to expect, honestly. >> [music] >> Week one and two, you'll feel the side delt for the first time.
Properly. Most people realize they've never actually felt it working before. Week three, the pump after the routine starts looking different. The shoulder begins to take a rounder shape even transiently. Day 30, the frame is visibly different in a t-shirt. Not dramatically larger, dramatically better shaped. That's the difference between size and the Hollywood frame. The muscle was always there. You just weren't training it.
Three movements, 15 minutes, 30 days, the illusion isn't an illusion. It's just the part of the shoulder everyone else is ignoring. Now you're not. Peace.
