this is the ultimate guide in how to do lighting within Roblox studio and this one's actually real I'll actually be showing you how to do lighting properly I've been building in Roblox studio for like I don't know like at least like 5 years by now maybe more probably more and I picked up on a few things so I'll be teaching you and showing you them here first step is you want to figure out your lighting scenario like for example do you want it to be a sunset where in sunsets the actual light parts and what I mean by light Parts is like like you see over here there's a squares these squares are coming through the window those are the actual light those light parts are really really yellowish looking while the Shadows which are just like the opposite of that so like over here there another example where the light is really yellowish and the actual Shadows is blue or in other words the lighting is in warm colors while the Shadows are in cool colors and what I mean by warm and cool colors warm colors basically just mean red yellowish well cool colors are just like purple or blue or green we basically again for Sunset scenario there's a lot of warm colors within the lighting parts and a lot of cool colors within the shadow parts and that's just for Sunset there can also be other scenarios like in afternoon lighting where the warm and cool colors are also there but it's not as noticeable like for example with this one you can see the actual lighting there is a subtle yellow to it and again with the actual Shadows there's a very subtle teal to it showing the warm and cool colors and then another lighting SC would be nighttime where the lights and shadows aren't as noticeable and instead you just use different light sources basically the main takeway is keep in mind of the colors of the light parts and the shadow Parts within your lighting so now that we know the different kinds of lighting scenarios let's look at what kind of lighting scenario would look best with your build how do you know well let's go back to my build here and I can see my build if I bring the the lighting more for my build it's really Brown brownish orangish and I I just think to myself what kind of lighting scenario do I think will look good with this to me I just think a sunset would look really cool so like imagine if there's sun coming down and it's like before even building one really good thing to do within your lighting is to think about how it look like like right now I'm visualizing like the sun coming down these windows and it's Sunset and it's really yellowish which really pairs nice with this brown wood that I already have within my build so let's do that so let's position the Sun so I can get the light to come in exactly how I want so I'm going to I'm going to link the description the sun plugin where you can change the position of the sun so let's let's move the sun like right over here and boom look at that that looks pretty cool having light coming in down like these like just lines of light coming down from the windows looks pretty cool so that's should be your first step within your lighting for interiors uh if you're not doing interior then I guess it this doesn't really matter but yeah coming down like light like this it looks really cool so now that we have that the next step is to change our Skybox so before we even go into lighting settings we need our Skybox so let's just go to the toolbox and get whatever sky that matches our chosen light scenario of a sunset all right I think this Sky would be fine um you can change this guy later on but I'm just going to keep it like this not too much of a sunset just subtle oops I changed my lighting by mistake let's put that back here and as I said again I want my lighting scenario to be a Sunset and looking at the references I know that the light Parts should be really yellow and the shadow Parts should be really blue so let's do that in order to do that you go into the lighting settings so ambient what ambient does is changes the color of the Shadows so like I said I want the Shadows to be blue so let's make it blue now I need to change the actual light part to Yellow how do I do that well I change the color of color shift top so I'm going to change this to a yellow color and just raise it up and there you go now it's yellow I'm going to make it a subtle yellow I don't want too much of a sunset or maybe I will I don't know we'll see might change it up later now if you see like the before and after of just changing those two settings you can see it looks better because we're actually using I guess art rules of using like warm and cool colors which makes your buildings or or I guess like art pieces look better which is pretty cool now um I want this to be like a moody kind of lighting so like there's no light turned on within the building but there's only light coming through the outside and as I'm saying this I'm I'm like visualizing how I want this to look which is a good thing you should visualize how you want your end product to look like so what I'm going to do is um I'm just going to get a part and then just put um a light Point within it so just put a plus click plus next to the part light point now within the settings of light point you want the Shadows to always be on because then you would get realistic lighting and then I'm going to make the color of the lighting slightly yellow cuz this this is this light is going to be coming from the outside I'm making basically the outside lighting increase that and just bring this out outside as you can see when I'm adding this it's only affecting on the shadow parts and if you look at references and just by Logic you know the Shadows are going to be lighter within the area where light is coming from so basically what I'm saying is over here because I added this light block over here because I added that the Shadows over here are going to be light while the shadow over here will be darker which is what we want and there you go that's the before and after just adding a light block on the outside now like I said I want this to be like a moody kind of lighting so what I'm going to do is um I'm going to lower this environment diffuse kill what this does is when you lower it it makes your shadows and your light more intense so like if I bring this all the way down you can see it's very intense with the lighting and Shadow uh like contrast so I'm going to just bring that down ATT bit and then this one honestly does also make your shadows darker but I like to leave it on cuz it doesn't really affect that much for uh environment speckler scale but yeah the diffuse scale that just makes your lighting your light to Shadow like ratio very intense so I like to always drag this bit down and after I do that I go back to the color shift top and make it less intense now that we have that I'm just going to increase the exposure just a tiny bit because I feel like it's too dark and now for the outdoor ambient this also changes the shadow color but only for the outside so if I drag this up for this build of specifically it only changes the the lighting within the corner over here of the outside because of that I'm just going to make it yellow or your outdoor ambient color would probably be different for you depending on what your build is now that that's done we're basically done with the lighting settings for now let's go add In Bloom so with Bloom what I do every time is I just make the threshold very very tiny something like 0.03 and then make the size very very high so a low threshold very low threshold and a very high size and then I just lowered the intensity to the amount I want and then that's basically it it's a subtle like change I add but I really like it it just adds a little it just adds like a little blur which just Blends in everything together really nicely so there you go that's the difference with the bloom now for color correction also I'm adding In Bloom in color correction by just clicking the plus next to lighting and then just searching them up so Bloom is there and then color correction what I always do is just I always do 0.05 for each of them and then I turn off and then on to see what I would want to change like for example I want the contrast to be up so I'm going to change this to .1 and there you go I think the light is a bit too intense so I'm just going to drag the brightness slightly down and then maybe decrease the bloom intensity there you go and I want the Shadows to be more there so I'm going to lower down the diffuse scale now I'm going to add in the the glass for the windows um here's like a trick that you may not have realized when adding in your windows that I'll be showing now um what I'm going to do as you normally put it so just AP part as your window so just AP part as your window now I'm going to lower it transparency there but you might have realized okay but the light is now gone in order to fix that you just select the window uncheck Shadow or cast Shadow so uncheck it and there you go your window is still there like my window over here is still there but now I still have my light coming through and what I'm going to do is um I'm going to actually make this glass and then I'm going to make this color slightly yellow cuz the outside is yellow like there's a yellow light coming in from the outside so that's a tricky that you can do for interiors just make the window color um like the light that's coming from the outside here you go you can see the before and after I'm honestly doing this because the sky blocks I chose it's it's pretty it's not yellow enough so I'm just adding yellow to the window so the sky can look more yellow so you can blend in better with the actual build there you go now that I've done that um The Next Step that you can do so now that we've added our sky boox changed the lighting settings add It In Bloom and color correction um we can go to the atmosphere go to properties and if your lighting seems too harsh looking just drag the the density up within the atmosphere so if I drag this up it's the more softer it'll look so I'm going to drag it up tiny bit so like this is the before and then after before after it just softens it a bit if it's too harsh for you but that's only if your Sky Box is um not like night time I think if your Sky Box is all black then this wouldn't really work with the the atmosphere and density but yeah after that um also adding in clouds for some reason makes your shadows look softer so go to open up workspace click the plus next to terrain and just look up clouds and then just add that in and then I go outside increase the cover and the density it'll just make your sh Shadows softer so like if you look at the Shadows over here if I turn the clouds off it's like that if I turn them on it's really soft you can also change that by going within the lighting and then the shadow softness you can increase it like this for this honestly just look at real life um references I think in real life the Shadows are soft a bit they're not like harsh like this so we're going to increase that a bit and also add in the clouds I feel like that's too soft so I'm going to lower the density and cover within the clouds there you go so yeah that's pretty some that's something interesting that I just picked up on the clouds soften the Shadows that's pretty cool now that we have that now here's another thing that you should be doing when we thinking about lightings you should always be thinking about the shadows as well so since I'm doing an interior I'm going to be doing the I'm going to do the Shadows within the furniture so if you look at a previous tutorial of mine I talked about how you can add in custom Shadows to emphasize the shadows of your Interiors so that's what I'm going to be doing I'm going to be using decals essentially to add in Shadows of my furniture you can use the shadow that's already been made as like a guide like for example with this table the shadow of the table is like right here so like these parts right here are the legs so I'm going to use as a guide to go over to for emphasize the Shadows so like over here is an example of what of what I've just done so like before and after this just intensifies your shadows so it's even better looking and again remember I'm making my shadow colors slightly blue so I make the color of these Shadows slightly blue and also doing the same technique you can do this not just for the Shadows but also for the lighting so like over here this is a decal of like a like a circle you can kind of see with the see how it is but it's like a soft Circle it just goes over the window just to blur it uh also to just show that light is coming through even more I just add that in and then like here's it before and after everything so far it's looking pretty cool now that's pretty much it that's how you get your linting to look really good now you can add in final touches um I guess what I can add is like vetri lighing whereby just going to the toolbox and looking up fog mesh and just getting this and oh I should preface that um do not use this fog mesh thing um for Bomer gliding unless you want a lot of lag so this game this thing would give you a lot of lag so just use this only for showcases so again I'm using this fog mesh as like the volum gliding which is basically like the sun like Rays coming down so I'm going to make the spread and make it transparency zero for now and then just rotating it to get it so it's within the the uh the light also I'm going to go into properties of it and turn off cash Shadow so I'm just following the light that I already have just filling it in so like over here here this area right here has light so I'm going to go over [Music] it there doesn't have to be exact now we're going to lower transparency to 0.99 uh six and then get that yellow color oh I forgot make it neon as well and there you go you can see the difference that that that make of the and there you go you can see the man I'm dying and there you go you can see the difference that that made you go that's vric lighting and again only add that it for like showcases don't add it uh unless you want your game to be laggy so here's a before and [Music] after and that's pretty much it and that's I get this cool lighting look okay now I'm going to do another example with a different lighting scenario and with a different build that actually has something in it this is just pretty basically just two like pieces of furniture and that's it or a furniture and a campfire and that's it I'll be showing you a different example now okay here's another build of mine and again I'll do the general lighting steps just to show you with another lighting scenario now for this one honestly the first step should be move the the sun to position it so the lighting comes in at an interesting angle so like all so like for example uh moving it here is interesting because the light would be coming through like lines or how I had it before where light was coming through here and above here making this really nice and interesting looking light so like light you're coming through here it looks pretty cool light is coming through here looks pretty cool so angling the sun over here is pretty cool so we're going to leave it like that now for the next step let's look at references these are the kind of ones that I kind of want to go for uh like these ones especially where there isn't really much of a warm and blue kind of colors with than the light and the shadow so let's go for this kind of lighting scenario where again it's very very subtle in the warm colors and the light and cool colors in the shadow so let's go for that so like the Shadows is kind of tealish and then the light part is a little yellowish so let's go for that now going back to Roblox Studio before we change the lighting settings first pick up the guy before doing anything so let's get a new sky from the toolbox I'll be using the Sky Box okay now that we have our Sky Box you can see the difference it makes so far this is the kind of lighting I want which is pretty good not too much blue I want that gray kind of look so now that we have this now we can go into the lighting and adjust accordingly so again I want the Shadows to be a slightly teal color but still pretty dark looking I'm going to make the brightness up just a tiny bit so we can see that lighting more so the light part show even more and then again I'm going to decrease this so the Shadows would show even more there you go and then the color shift bottom sorry the color shift top again of course I want the yellow to be there within the actual lighting so we're going to show some of that now using the atmosphere so select atmosphere and just drag the density a tiny bit doing this just softens some of the dark Parts like this is how it was before and just increasing the density of the atmosphere just makes it uh like softer looking now let's go to bloom and again like I said make the threshold very small and increase the intensity by a lot and then just change the or sorry I mean increase the size by a lot and then just change the intensity lower it down a bit and that's kind of the bloom I like to get there you go so far it's looking pretty good now now at this stage we can add in the um like the volumetric gliding and the dust particles just to finish it off oh and also I forgot you should also add the furniture or the furniture Shadows so let's do that okay there you go there's the where's the good spot to show it off okay here's like the Shadows added in and now just to finish it off all we need to add is the vetri lighting using the fog mesh okay now we just decrease the transparency and there you go let me show it a bit more here there you go can see the vetri gliding has been added I can also add the dust particle but I don't really care about that that's fine without it and that's pretty much it now as an overview remember these key steps in order to achieve good lighting number one first before even doing anything figure out your lighting scenario whether that's the sunset and afternoon or night figure out what works best with the build that you have number two adjust the position of the sun so you want to move the sun in order to position the light Parts at a unique spot and number three now that you have chosen the your lighting scenario find a sky boox that matches that lighting scenario and then number four once you have your Skybox and you've chosen your lighting scenario change the lighting settings so for example if you chosen to do a sunset kind of lighting change the lighting set settings accordingly to a sunset knowing warm and cool colors within shadows and lights and then number five add in the custom Shadows or lights whether if it's interior or exterior add in Shadows adding Shadows within furniture or if you're doing an outside of a city add Shadows underneath the car or something but yeah number five just add in Shadows and lights and that's pretty much it remember those five key steps and then you can add in finishing touches such as voltric gliding or anything that would improve the atmosphere of your lighting and all those five steps will get you good lighting so if this video helped please consider subscribing or at least leave a like if you have any questions ask them in the comments if I don't reply back maybe try to find me within my Discord and message me there and then I'll try to respond and that's it thanks bye
