[Applause] beautiful [Music] what is that [Music] it's like [Music] oh this is like a traditional sounding instrument [Music] she'll get enough water [Music] cause oh my feeling we had that more traditional sounding instrument and my first reaction to this singer is that she has a lot of more traditional or Chinese folk or classical yeah roots or inspiration I'm not sure I hear her doing some of the decorations that I've heard Han Hong do in a more traditional song so I'm not sure where this is headed or if that's just the beginning or let's see [Music] I know meet you I feel that this is very uh there definitely is the the markers of some more traditional Chinese folks singing The yodely Sounds where she's switching that sound is is weaved in but the interesting thing about this singer is she has this really beautiful modern floaty tone very soothing not just a piercing sound with a with the more traditional decorations it's very much like the two things meeting where perhaps perhaps this is an opportunity for people who are drawn to more modern singing to appreciate some of those more traditional ornamentations and decorations because they're being placed Within the more current sweeter floaty feeling so this is a this is a merge situation I feel [Music] so she's choosing she's choosing those H's to start off those tones right she's articulating them with the H tone which by the way I'm realizing is even though it's something I coach people away from different cultural influences different artistic influences May dictate that this is uh done on purpose as opposed to my original when I first started watching Asian artists I would often say oh you know this is a lack of control and there's still a part of me that feels oh why you know why is she putting that but I'm starting to explore that when these things are done repetitively across artists and genres in Asia I'm starting to realize that this might be a sound that is appreciated or something that an artist did some years ago that people really just resonated with so I guess I'm just talking you through my inner thoughts as I explore the different what what what the different cultures are used to hearing and loving and not just used to but what actually Appeals what actually appeals so this is my journey too you guys are watching my journey unfold of learning what a ho what what people that have grown up listening to completely different things than me that speak a different language than me what what their ear grabbed onto and loved and what what what these artists are doing for me I'm still making the Divide between what I like and what I don't like what I think is good foundational singing what I think could use more support but I'm learning that in the mix here is also this for lack a better word either cultural difference or simply influence difference of influences so so that so that's my exploration you're watching me kind of you know unfold the story for myself too [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] Champion so using that that register change [Music] foreign [Music] so again in the beginning we were hearing that floaty tone that I said was the more sort of modern floaty tone now her tone is that I've heard this more in the traditional Chinese singing with that more pointy Focus tone and the more uh those complex decorations that I recognize from the traditional singing as well this is neat it's a neat performance [Music] big wavy loopy vibrato more traditional sounding right big pitch shifts [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay she's really neat she's really neat this is a very Dynamic performance in both new and old and both stylization genre to genre and frankly pitch range range and and tone style that floaty tone versus this very very piercing uh mix this is a very Dynamic vocalist [Music] huh very interesting artist very very interesting [Music] pure floaty tone neat really neat wow really cool I am [Music] foreign [Music]
