Why i turned down a $100k book deal transcript

so yeah I uh I did turn down like a $100,000 book deal so I guess I just wanted to tell you why I kind of made that decision how it how it came about a little bit and then um yeah I think it's kind of interesting to start off with if you don't know I have like a Channel with half a million subscribers um and I have a couple of friends who also have decent sized channels who are writing books right now um and one of those friends kind of recommended to me that I should write a book because um it's like a it's a you know cool way to make money it can be profitable can start getting you speaking gigs uh gives you credibility there's like a bunch of benefits that go into writing a book just because you get to say you're an author um a lot of times you're more likely to get invited on podcast and like just grows your whole personal brand type thing so um I was like you know it's a that's an interesting idea uh just curious if I could like get a book deal so um I got in touch with one of their agents I guess like the person who got them their book deal um and I talked to them like last week or something two weeks ago now and he said he was 98% confident he could get me like $100,000 is book deal um and you know I would have to write it in you know four to six months or so um you know write this book I would have to work with a ghost writer and um I I could do it pretty much which is interesting because I wasn't really sure if I would be able to get one but uh because I have an audience he he was pretty sure I could I could get a book deal so that was really that was really interesting to me and I was very close to saying yes for this I'm going to put the camera down I don't know I was very close to saying yes because um it could be like a really big step for me kind of moving to the next level of getting outside of just being a YouTuber into like being a a you know well-known personality or whatever but also like when it comes to a books books are not really profitable most people don't know this cuz you probably never thought about writing a book before I didn't know this till recently but books aren't like super profitable yes I would make like probably the 100K or whatever but then the that would be like an advance and I would probably never make money off that book again um because of the like how it works with the publisher they'd give me upfront money and then I wouldn't really make money again I could also try publishing it myself um and I would be able to own all the rights to the books and probably make um money long term but it wouldn't maybe be as much money um it would just be more spread out so it's like it's very interesting it' be harder to get into book stores and stuff um so those are like two routes that I could go in the future if I decide to do this uh but that's something that most people probably don't know uh about books but also in order to actually make them profitable it's not really how much you get in guaranteed money it's not how much you get in sales although that can be a lot if you get like a bestselling book or whatever the the main way that you make money is by building a backend so that your book is really a lead magnet that leads to this back end this is probably way more than most of you are interested in it but I think it's super interesting um so I decided to hold off on the you know doing a book deal until I have something that I can drive people towards sometimes of um you know course or um like I don't know like course or Community or something like that and inside of that I want to know that I have real proof that this system that I'm going to talk about in the book um which is really like doing exactly what I did in you know reaching Financial Independence in 5 years uh it's what my brother did it's what bunch of friends have done it's like we almost did the exact same thing all of us um and but I wanted to prove that that works with other people first so whether that's a year or you know 3 years I want to really build a super quality system that can help people go from A to B like at a job to not at a job within a couple years from the system and really have that nailed down before I go for the money because I could go for the money right now and I could probably get you know whatever amount of money and I could slap a course together real quick and you know um you know do that approach but I really want to have a a quality group that I can use example in the book of like this person followed this system changed their life this person followed this system changed their life so um that's why I said no because um for me at this point a little bit more money won't really change my life that much um but I know that it can be a bigger thing later on but I also want to make sure that I'm not just taking money to give like a generic book I could do a generic book I could do um kind of my ideas and my examples but I want to I want to know that this is what the 4-Hour Work week was for me or um something like that where it's like this is proof that it really happened and it can change people's lives for a really long time so I don't want to rush that at all if it takes me a year if it takes me 3 years even if I get less money later on um that's just something that I want to know so if you guys are interested I'm still like building this kind of it's it's going to take a lot of time to build this structure uh for whatever this ends up turning into that people can follow and kind of do a similar lifestyle that I've been able to do to gain a lot of you know time freedom very quickly um by being a little bit extreme um if you're interested in that there'll be a wait list down below whenever I launch whatever I launch um I'd love to get some of you guys in there to to test and really really see if I can change people's lives um and and yeah that's kind of my goal with this so if you're interested in that check it out down below and yeah that's why I said no to 100k this year and um hopefully you know maybe it'll turn into more in the future but in the end um I don't want money if it's not like um earned and I want to earn it by
