Hypnosis and the Critical Faculty... The Chaos Wave View! transcript

no hypnosis does not bypass the critical faculty hey guys how's it going this is james tripp with a video for james tripp chaos wave i want to make a very quick video on hypnosis and the critical faculty because i had a conversation with somebody the other day they were looking to change something in their lives and what I was saying is they needed to become aware of something they need to bring their consciousness to something to the place where they had leverage in their life and they they were saying to me yeah I know I hear you but isn't this something we can do with hypnosis can't we just use hypnosis to bypass my critical faculty and put a suggestion and I said no I said hypnosis does not bypass the critical faculty and this is an important point to understand because it's a term that comes up a lot bypassing the critical faculty but what I think was happening in this situation is the car was getting put before the horse so the idea is is that one of the things that keeps new ideas out of our lives is something called the critical faculty and bypassing it is a part of what hypnosis is about but let's be absolutely clear about this hypnosis isn't a magical thing that bypasses the critical faculty bypassing the critical faculty is a condition for hypnosis ok so that is part of the structure of the thing we call hypnosis the bypassing of the critical faculty that is the way around that it works so yes we do want to bypass the critical faculty but hypnosis doesn't magically do that in fact one of the best ways if you're doing clinical work with hypnosis to bypass the critical faculty is to get somebody to buy into the understanding that their defense of their current reality is not going to serve them that their critical thinking is not going to serve them and this is why so often when I'm working with people I point out that they have a critical faculty that is quite capable of pulling out the sword of reason and chopping apart any new idea that's coming in I will say to people you have this part of your mind that's all about defending your current understandings your current beliefs and yet these understandings and beliefs the very things that need to change so I invite people consciously to choose to place their critical faculty to one side and open themselves up to new ideas and possibilities and through a showing of willingness engage deeply with those instead of me having to sort of mystically put the critical faculty offline with some super power now you could argue that of course I'm coaching a client to take their critical faculty offline and engage with what I'm offering with their creative faculty and you could argue that that coaching is a form of hypnosis and therefore hypnosis is bypassing the critical faculty but I generally think that's a less useful way of thinking about it of course we can coach somebody to step out of their critical faculty engagement and into creative faculty engagement but I would suggest that it's much more useful to look at this coaching as being part of a bigger mix that creates the phenomenon we call hypnosis rather than hypnosis being a magical thing that somehow does that okay so if this video has switched on a light for you if you like this video please do like the video if you have any questions about this if this has opened up a thread where you want to explore a little bit more there's a comment section below and I welcome you to make use of it and if you want to get more deep knowledge rare knowledge on using your mind to shape the life hypnosis NLP personal psychology this kind of thing do subscribe to the channel and you'll want to hit that notification spell as well otherwise no one's going to let you know when the videos come out okay so thank you for being here thank you for watching this until this conversation continues keep on using your mind to shape your life you [Music]
