[HOOK AND PREVIEW - 0:00 to 0:30 | about 90 words] Show the hardest 10 seconds of the session, then the shape of the whole thing. "[SESSION TYPE], [TOTAL TIME], [WHAT YOU NEED]." Put the full block list on screen so a viewer can see the end before starting. [WHAT YOU NEED AND HOW TO SCALE - 0:30 to 1:30 | about 180 words] "All you need is [EQUIPMENT or NONE] and about a metre of floor." "Every move has a [EASIER] version and a [HARDER] version. I will call both out as we go." Safety line, said plainly: "If anything pinches, stop and take the easier version." [WARM UP - 1:30 to 4:00 | about 270 words] Lead the warm up in real time with no cuts, so viewers can follow without pausing. "[MOVE] for [TIME], then [MOVE]." "Keep this at about [EFFORT LEVEL]. This is preparation, not the workout." [BLOCK ONE - 4:00 to 7:30 | about 360 words] "[EXERCISE], [REPS OR TIME]. [CUE], [CUE]." Count the work out loud for timed sets so nobody has to look at the screen. Between sets: "Rest here. Take the full [REST TIME], it is part of the plan." [BLOCK TWO - 7:30 to 11:00 | about 360 words] "[EXERCISE], [REPS OR TIME]." "Form cue that matters most here: [SINGLE CUE]." "Easier version: [SCALE DOWN]. Harder version: [SCALE UP]." [BLOCK THREE - 11:00 to 14:30 | about 360 words] "[EXERCISE], [REPS OR TIME]." Flag the point where most people quit: "The last few reps are where this block actually happens." [FINISHER - 14:30 to 16:30 | about 270 words] "[SHORT HIGH EFFORT PIECE], [TIME ON], [TIME OFF], [ROUNDS]." "Same work, same rest, no extra credit for going fast." [COOLDOWN - 16:30 to 19:00 | about 270 words] Hold each position long enough to matter: "[STRETCH], [TIME]." Breathe with the viewer: "In through the nose for four, out for six." [RECAP AND NEXT SESSION - 19:00 to 20:00 | about 135 words] Name the three blocks in one line each. "Next session is [FOCUS]. Do this one twice this week before adding load."
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Cutting the warm up and the work intervals into a highlight reel, which makes it impossible to follow along without pausing every few seconds.
Forgetting to name scaling options, so anyone who cannot do the main movement leaves immediately.
Talking through the work rather than counting it, which forces viewers to look at the screen and lose their position.
Ending without naming the next session, so the video is a one off instead of part of a plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should a workout video have a script?
Script the block order, the times, and the cues, then coach live over them. Cues matter more than narration in this format, and because roughly half a session is counting rather than talking, a 20 minute session carries about 1,800 words of cueing. Silence during work is normal and expected.
How long should a follow along workout video be?
Match the promised session length exactly. If the video says 20 minutes, deliver 20 minutes of real time. Viewers plan their day around that number, so a 12 minute session in a 20 minute video costs you the reviews.
How do I make a workout video work for beginners and advanced viewers?
Name an easier version and a harder version for every movement, once, at the start, then call out which one you are doing as you go. That keeps one video useful for both without a second demonstration section.
Do I need cuts in a follow along workout?
Not in the working sections. Real time is the point. Cut only between blocks, and never inside a timed interval, because a cut hides how much time passed and the viewer loses their place.
