I put one clove in my coffee every single morning. Wait till you hear what clove can do. It is mind-blowing. There was a hospital study, triple blind, 168 patients on ventilators. Half got clove mouthwash, and half of them got the hospital antiseptic, the one that they use topically on your skin for infections. [music] The clove group got pneumonia at half the rate. Now, that's a mouthwash study, but what does this have to do with putting clove in your coffee every morning?
First of all, a lot of people drink coffee, including myself, and adding clove to the coffee, it's a really easy thing to do. And it actually intensifies the flavor of the coffee, but the health benefits are quite remarkable, and that's what I want to share with you today. Now, every clove video on YouTube talks about this active compound called eugenol. And sometimes when they talk about it, they mention that it can get into your blood and create all these amazing effects, but there's very little research to show that eugenol goes beyond your digestive system.
Once you ingest the chemical in clove, it goes into your mouth, goes down your esophagus, goes into your stomach, goes into your small intestine, but the benefits of clove really only happen for the first 18 ft of your digestive system. But very little of this chemical, like less than 1%, ever gets past the liver because the liver will break it down into an inactive form. So, there's a lot of big claims that talk about, "Oh, it can handle your depression and your brain fog." There's no research on that.
But the research and the benefit of clove happens before it gets in your bloodstream. But what's going to happen next is pretty amazing cuz you're exposing most of your digestive system to eugenol. Just by doing something you're already doing in the morning, which is drinking your coffee. Yes, there's known data to show that cloves are great for dental pain. If you have tooth pain, there's also research that clove is antimicrobial, supports a healthy liver, it's anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal.
It has different effects on ulcers, which I'll get to. But, let's first talk about what clove does to the stomach. Researchers took 30 strains of H. pylori and tested eugenol against it, okay? The compound in clove. It literally shut down every single one of them. Then, what they did is very interesting. They grew five of these H. pylori strains at low doses for 10 generations. So, they kept reproducing them over and over and over and over.
And what they were trying to test for was resistance. Because there's something called antibiotic resistance, where someone takes an antibiotic, they get a resistance against it, and then all of a sudden the microbe gets stronger and stronger, and now it doesn't work anymore. So, apparently, you don't develop bacterial resistance with eugenol. And other labs have done the same protocol with standard H. pylori antibiotics.
And when you use antibiotics, they do produce resistance to the antibiotics. Because when you think about it, the standard treatment for H. pylori is a dose of antibiotics. The other interesting thing about eugenol is it seems to survive the stomach acidity. And when we're talking about H. pylori, this is the microbe that lives in such an acidic medium, like between 1 and 3. That's like battery acid. And it somehow survives.
And apparently, eugenol performs better in the same environment, in acidic environment. In this research, there were actual humans involved in the study. For 30 days, the concentrated eugenol was taken daily. And by the 30th day, in the group of pre-diabetics, the drop was substantial. I have a free download that I want to give to you. This free download is my daily routine in a checklist. This is the routine that I use every day to feel like I'm 18 years old even though I'm 60 years old and I want to give it to you for free.
And so there's a little link down below, click it and definitely download that. Let's talk about coffee for a second because coffee has its own benefits by itself, especially for blood sugar. The compounds in coffee actually slow down the absorption of glucose in the gut. So hypothetically, combining clove with coffee could help someone. There was a rat study, low dose eugenol given to animals with stomach ulcers healed from ulcers significantly faster than a group of animals that were given more dosage.
Nearly 50% of those ulcers got bigger, okay? When you added more of this. In the case of clove, I don't think more is better. I think less might be better. Typically, I'm the guy that will take more. If one's good, I'm going to take five, I'm going to take 10. You probably don't want to do that. You probably want to take between one and three cloves per cup of coffee. More is not always better. I want to mention clove antioxidant levels.
Apparently, and this is fascinating, if you take a look at every natural antioxidant, it just so happens that clove is at the very top of the list. It has the most antioxidants of anything out there. So a lot of people ask me, "What supplements do I recommend?" Now, of course, I'm not biased of my own high quality supplement line, but if you go to Amazon and type Dr. Berg Supplements, you'll find more information. Now, let's get into the protocol, okay?
This is what you need to do. Step one, crush a clove. You can take the clove, put it on a cutting board, and take a spoon, and you press down on that clove. Another way that I'm going to try to do this and then I'll have to make a note if it works, but I'm going to put a couple cloves in my coffee maker. So when I grind the coffee beans, there'll be one or two cloves in there. It'll grind it together, and then it produces the coffee at the same time.
Regardless, we want to crush the clove, one, two, or three, and then we want to add it to the coffee. And you want to wait for a couple minutes. The heat is not going to destroy the eugenol. Apparently, it can survive heat, okay? Especially for like up to 10 minutes. Now, the aroma might fade fairly fast, but the therapeutic compound survives. And I was really surprised how I enjoyed the taste of this clove coffee. It was actually quite delicious.
So, number three, drink the coffee, okay? A couple safety notes before you get started. If you're on a blood thinner like warfarin, or you're taking high-dose aspirin, talk to your doctor before taking this. Eugenol has a mild effect on blood clotting. If you're a diabetic on medication, monitor your levels, check with your doctor. And one side note, a question, I know someone's going to ask this. What about the essential oil of clove?
And no, I'm not going to recommend essential oil. Apparently, that's not something that you ingest. You can use it topically, but you don't want to ingest the oil, okay? Also, children under the age of two, this could create some toxicity, so don't give small children this remedy. Now, since we're on the topic of clove, I have another fascinating video on clove that you must see. It's right here, check it out.
